Lets have another POLL ***450***

Just ordered 4 boxes of Beowulf ammo last night and it was only a few $ more per box than the 450. 9rds 335gr hollow points makes a better bacon getter than 5rds of 250gr.

I debated quite a bit on the big bore upper and always wanted to try one. I went with the 450B because the upper cost as well as the intended purpose of a 100-150yd powerhouse. All in all the three, 450B, 458S, and 50B all act about the exact same out to that distance anyway. When i totalled up the cost of getting the upper, 100 pieces of brass, 100 bullets, Dies and reloading accesories, and 2 boxes of loaded ammo, the 450B was cheaper by about 150-200 dollars and that made my choice for me. To me it will be like the Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge debate, everyone will like one and hate the others but they all get the job done.

Alot of folks hang up on round count in the mags as well but with a little modification on standard mags the 450 will work and hold just as many as the others, if you do a little research on the web you can find the how to's for that modification.

This debate has been settled for me it all comes down to money and availabilty. The 450 has both that can't be disputed. The 458 has two small ammo suppliers and the beowoulf has one. The price of rounds for factory 458 is crazy, the beowoulf isn't bad but still more than 450. Upper prices are all comparable and have major manufacturers on board. So if you are to appeal to the masses the 450 Bushmaster is going to win this debate for simple price. Here in Indiana all will be legal to deer hunt so we are going to see how well they sell here. I own a 450 and it is a very impressive piece of equipment to have for that need of a thumper.

Yep and the 450 DOESNT have any type of royalties involved in it, so we good to go with it...

Seems like someone running a Gun shop might would know this?Guess not.

The 458 potentially has better feeding since the brass isn't straight walled like the 450. Plus it's nice to shoot 200 to 600+ grain bullets.

without factoring in reloading the 458 is way to high for factory ammo. While I do reload it still concerns me the high price of factory availible ammo.

I've been throwing the idea of a 50 beowulf around for a while but at $26 a box on the 450 stuff and two main ammo companys already factoy loading, I think I may just be leaning toward the 450.....anybody out there got one and used it on some hogs or any large game??, thats what mine would be a hog gun.

Greetings all
This is my first post
I have had a 458 Socom for a couple of years now and I have killed over 150 hogs with it. All 3 guns,458,450 and 50 are just about equal in performance, but for me the socom edged out the other 2.
It take's standard AR mags. There is a wide range of bullets including the Barnes TTSX that was designed for the Socom and is one heck of a killing bullet.
Ammo prices are high, but if you reloade thats not a real factor.
Since this is my first post I guess I should through a pic.
Thanks

The mag deal is not a huge issue on the bushmaster, Sig plastic mags have been proven to feed the 450B pretty good and a set of two runs about $32. They hold about 11 reliably from teh general consensus on them and some have been claiming to get 12 reliably.
