Lets See Your Pictures

Maybe this photo taken in the same spot about 400 yards from our front door would of been better. The fish are silver salmon.

AfricaPredator - While looking at your pictures I'm surprised to see that you can use a military style rifle in South Africa. I'm not well versed in any African laws, but A while ago someone posted about some of your restrictions. They said that Camo .... especially Military camo was almost a "shoot on site" offense ... if I remember this was related to poaching by semi-military groups. Obviously you can hunt in camo and with military style weapons, it was just a point of interest for me.

Edit: It seems that I have made an error. The man never said that the pictures he took of his hunting rig was in South Africa, my mistake. My post was probably poorly written, my intention was to learn about local hunting conditions as they apply to firearms and the oddities of camo clothing as they relate to other countries. I am forced to appologise for any misunderstandings my posted question has caused.

UgashikBob - At first glance It looked like bansd od dark sand in the river, naturally now it is obvious that I was looking at fish not dark sand. The abundance of wild life in your state is truly amazing. ..... I'm glad you got your Argo out without more damage than you ended up having.

Hey, real nice pictures Creekindoor. Welcome to the forums. Beautiful places in the UK. I'll bet you have a lot of red fox there, right? Tell us about hunting regulations or opportunities there, if you don't mind.

Hi, Glad you like the pics. We are fortunate that here in the U.K we can shoot and hunt fox and other pests/varmints all year round. Fox control is carried out for several reasons. To help preserve Game and wildlife, domestic livestock protection, and of course sport. There is no greater thrill than using your wits to hunt a wild cunning predator, being out and about when most folk are still in bed. There are number of methods used in fox control. Shooting both rifle and shotgun being the most popular. Dusk and dawn, and over here we can shoot at night, using a lamp and calling being very popular and effective.
Other methods are snaring. Used correctly and responsibly you can account for a great many foxes.

The use of terriers is also popular. A terrier enters a fox earth (hole) and if a fox is at home and bolts it is shot by a gun/guns standing nearby. This method is usually done during the late winter/spring and it is not unusual to bolt and shoot dog and vixen out of the same earth.

FIRSTLY MICHAEL, WHO SAID THAT PHOTO WAS TAKEN IN SOUTH AFRICA? It could have been overbthe border here, or Namibia?

Micheal, whoever told you that is talking utter garbage, I have never heard of so much garbage, man you and I should get together and go hunt, man its actually a joke. The part of camo military and military guns, man whoever told you that!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seems somebody is not altogether with it.

Their is NO law against miltary camo, here in fact I have about 150 different military camo sets, I collect them, I challenge anybody to spin me such a bunch of garbage.

ON GUNS; Yes its just about impossible to buy ANY gun in SA now, the laws are tight, I have land and papers and permits and have firearms, my guns kill predators for me. Since 1984 I have bought and sold over 130 guns, and never has anybody even questioned my ability to why I need them, I have valid reason to have them. Thats a custom Galil 223 wth long barrel, shoots half inch groups out to 150 yards over sandbags in photo you refer to, more accurate than many bolt action guns.

Whoever told you that garbage is not correct, shoot on sight with military camo- what a joke. No you cannot hunt with a gun that fires more than 2 rounds automatically.

Camo is not illegal here, and you wont get shot wearing it. In any case who are these people who will " shoot us on sight" man this gets funny more so every second.

Also if you own your own land be it 1 hectare or a 20,000 hectare spread nobody can tell you - you cannot drive on your land without a drivers licence, same thing.

SORRY 6mm, I never meant to hijack your neat topic, just had to set this straight. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Whow now, I'm not looking to call you out, I'm interested in local condition and the equipement you are using, nothing more than that. It was my impression that you are from South Africa so I assumed your pictures came from there. I know that I was shocked to hear that bit about military style camo, but from what I was able to gather, poaching has gotten very bad in some places and the government is at its witts end attempting to deal with it. Africa is a big contenent, with many small countries, I'm just interested in what you have to deal with, nothing more. It's very possible that I got bad information, this is what I like about talking to people that actually live and deal with their own country.

I'm with you hogin204!

That pic says a lot. The the dogs are the simply "the "cherry atop a sundae", the lace on a bride's nightie".

BTW, 6mm06,

YOU started something pretty cool here. I shut the season down last week, but I'm headed on a snowcat ski trip this weekend in the Southern San Juans. I'll post some pics from above my hunting grounds.

Looking forward to your photos stormking. Yes, it seems this forum has really taken off, and it's really cool too. I love seeing where you guys hunt. I think it's good for all of us to see.

creekindoor and creasy, thanks for those really nice pictures. Beautiful photos and scenery.

creekindoor, we sometimes hear all sorts of stories about gun ownership in the UK. But, seems that you are still able to hunt. Is it much of a problem there to own a gun? Are you allowed to keep it at home? And what about public hunting lands, do you have places there where the public can go? Just curious about your laws.

I don't have any good pictures from my home state of MI where I normally hunt, but here are a few of the stands I hunted in Nevada. I was there a couple months ago around new years.

Although the UK has strict gunlaws, shooting sports are very popular. As long as you are an honest upright citizen, and you can demonstrate a need to own a gun, rifle or shotgun, (handguns are banned) you can own one. The reasons for gun ownership are generally sport shooting game/clay or target and pest/vermin control.
Guns can be kept at home but when not in use all guns and ammo have to be kept locked up and out of sight. The local police firearms officer generally inspects premises to ensure that this is the case.
There is no public shooting ground in the UK. So you will have to buy shooting by the day or lease some ground, often joining a syndicate to do this. A lot of pest/vermin shooting is available free, with farmers and landowners allowing people on their land to shoot pests like rabbits and pigeons.
