Hello everybody,

Dad and I were hunting Saturday and managed to get five down at our first stand. We made recovery on four of them, not sure where that 5th one went. He went down light he'd been struck by lightning, never really gave him a second thought with 2 more live ones in
sight.

Anyway, I used the word "quad" and that kinda baffled dad a little. It got me to thinking about how different folks probably use different terminology, and some of us the same.
I think I may have coined the term "grand slam" the night a came home with only 4 critters, a red, a gray, a cat and a coyote. That's just what I called it as a joke and it stuck here locally.

So, with that being said.... Maybe you guys will help me compile a list of predator lingo.

I'll start with something simple as an example.

DOUBLE- Two inidividulas taken in the same stand.

Two-pointer..... That's a coyote with a white tipped tail, something I first heard here on the forums.

 
Can we ALWAYS use the term "coyote" when discussing CANIS LATRANS and the word "dog" when discussing CANIS FAMILIARIS. I know this irritates some folks here but as an example, one of my good friends continually uses the term "dog" when discussing his wolf/coyote shooting and trapping adventures. He frequently angers even our own pro hunting friends till they figure out what the heck he is actually talking about. When people hear the word "dog" they think of lassie and nothing else. How we refer to these animals can either gain support or alienate folks who we may not even realize are listening to us talk. Sorry for the rant but I have personally seen this reaction too many times. The antis love nothing more than lifting a quote off of a site like this where someone is talking about "killing dogs" and then using it against us. Just my two cents.

I usually try to stay off derails, but I refer to coyotes as dogs when gender differentiation is needed, as it is the proper term for a male coyote. Ex: "that's a big yote! Is it a dog or a bi---?"

Housing is cheap and jobs are plenty in Texas. Come on down and you
can speak freely. I can't imagine what life would be like where antis are over-populated.
In all honesty I will never stop using the word dog, simply because where I come from.... People know what you mean.

i cant imagine what life would be like in a place where there is almost no public land to go camping, hunting, fishing, 4 wheeling anytime i wanted to. where everything is private and you have to pay to do those kinds of things. you can keep the cheap houses and jobs.

peg leg or tripod. coyote missing a leg.
