Leupold Mark 4 Scopes

From a competition standpoint their biggest problem is the weight. They are heavy and to use one you have to go with a lighter, less accurate barrel to meet the weight limit.

For hunting they are still heavy and expensive. If you don't mind the weight or cost, they are good.

what do you think the draw backs are to the NF ?

Thanks...

If you disreguard cost witch I have since they are both $1000+ scopes. The NSX is alot heavier, bigger, and although you can adjust the brightness of the retical you have to take off the turret and use a small allen wrench to do so. On the other hand you have a scope that is 95% as good in a better package. The retical has a numbered dial (1-10) that all you have to do is twist to select the brightness you desire. And even though it is still a large scope it is not as cumbersome as the NSX.

Don't take me wrong I love both scopes and they each have their +'s and -'s.

If weight is a drawback, then i'll give it that. I have a 8-32 NXS on a rifle with a 30" barrel that finishes at 1" with a break,....I am still only at 15.5lbs with a weight limit of 17lbs. They do weigh 50% more than the leupolds, but IMHO they are clearer, there focus dial adjusts more "precisely" for my eyes, their reticle selection is anything you would need, and illum is standard, not an option. I also like the eye releif of the NXS better than the leupold. Another benefit as far as my feel goes,..is the NXS has much more positive clicks than the leupys which felt mushy to me after I used an NXS.

All my opinion of course,..but if I can make whatever weight limit I am trying for with an NXS, I'll take one every day of the week.

Dan N., thanks for keeping me straight, its been a big arugument for sure.

I'd like a 3.5-10X40mm Luppy M3 Ill. Mill-Dot reticle on a light, fast handling rifle for yotes. I opted for more power on another rifle, and a heavy barrel, looking for something with "everything" from varmints at extended ranges to yotes, and bobcats in the brush.

Maybe if I cut that barrel off to about 20", and mounted that M3 on it, I'd have a faster handling rifle, ready for quick estimates at closer in, and mid ranges?

You know, the S & B, US Optics, and NightForce scopes have been coming up with some very up to date reticles.
Premier Reticles had been doing some custom stuff with Lupppy's, but I think they only work with S&B, but are honering all previous done Luppy's.

I'd like to try a 6.5-20X50 TMR reticle, illuminated or not, at ranges beyond 600 yards. That might be interesting...

I think two of those above will also match knobs with reticles, so you don't have to think about milloradium's and minute of angel. Make 'em both the same.
