Leupold rifleman scope opinion

Short Story:

A few years ago I needed a scope late one Saturday evening to take out the next day to be used by the grandson of a friend who came to visit unexpectedly.

The young boy had never been coyote hunting before, so we decided to go the next morning. He was a fairly small boy and I had a 700 ADL Youth rifle in 243 Win new in a box - with no scope I wanted to put on the rifle.

So....I headed to Walmart late in the evening and bought a 4X12 Leupold Rifleman scope. The next day it took 3 shots to get it sighted in for the young man who killed his first coyote later that morning.

Since then, the rifle/scope has stayed in the country and it gets tossed into a PU or jeep occasionally. I have used it several times myself, and the scope is still working great and holding point of aim.

Sure, its not as nice optically as a VX-III or the even better new VX-3 Leupold, but for whatever I paid for it - I don't remember exactly other than it was in the ~$200 range - it was money well spent. The optics are OK+ for the dollar value of the scope, and the friction adjustments have held point of aim very well.

What more can you ask for from a low end priced scope... It works..!!

I'd say you guys should have bought the 4200 when I posted it they were on sale yesterday and now it $60 more today and they dont go on sale very often so glad I ordered one of the 4-16x40's for $399 because today it's $499.

Weaver G.S. glass is as good as a 4200 in my old eyes! 3200 = Burris FFII.

Bushnell really does'nt have anything to compete with a Weaver Classic in it's price range. There 3200 series is bottom basement and over priced!

I really like the burris fullfields, but i also own a few leupolds, nikons and muellers and for what your intended use is. i would go with the nikon prostaff, ive had them on muzzleloaders before and they held up to the abuse. And you can get them for a little over $100. with a lifetime warranty

thanks for the replys, its been mounted now and sits very nice on the ML. Its got great eye releif and grabs all the legal light I need for deer huntin. The rig will stick 3 shots in a nice lil cluster at 100 yds provided I hold up my end of the deal, for less than 200.00 in optics and a lifetime warrenty....I'm sold.

Now if chossin the right "tactical" scope for my AR was that easy.lol
