I found a leupold rifle man 3x9x40 for 150.00 I have been thinking about buying a Nikon prostaff 2x7 or 3x9x40 when I ran into the deal on the leupold,I liked it not sure about the 1/2 clicks, both are about what I want to spend.
Opinions wanted between these two,Thanks.
Bob

Well, to me that would depend on what you were going to put it on. But half inch clicks are fine for your typical deer rifle/coyote gun. I had one of these on a .264 Magnum until I traded the rifle off. Still have the scope. I think those Rifleman scopes are a great deal myself. If you can get one in 3-9 for a c-note and a half I would say go for it.

Its is hard to beat the Leupold warranty, that said, the Nikon prostaff seems to be the best seller at my local Sportsmans Warehouse.

Buy the one that looks best to your eye, it is the one that counts. Good luck!

i really didnt care for the leapold vx1 that i had. the rifleman and vx1 are almost the same scope. they are the same opticals but the adj are a little diferent. the nikon i think will be a little more clear, but like double d said leapold warranty is unbeatable. the vx1 i had didnt stay on my rifle very long. i dont know very much about scopes but i could clearly tell the vx1 wasnt a good scope clearity wise. lee

puting it on either a hornet or 17 rem.

In that case, I would opt for an extra $50 and get one of Browning badged Bushnell 5-15 power scopes from Natchez. I took my new one out yest and compared it to my 4-16 4200 Bushnell. At half the price of the 4200 the only way to describe the Browning is that it is a screaming deal.

Both scopes are about the same quality so it comes down to, would you would prefer the 2x7 or the 3x9 power on your rifle. One other important reason in your choice, if the scope ever needs service then Leupold would be the best bet for quick service. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I have two 3-9x50 prostaffs and after this week will have a third. I really like them and have had no problems or regrets in the purchase.

I don't know the Nikon Prostaff. But Rifleman is Leupold's very bottom of the line scope and has minimal lens coating. They used to not even have click adjustments. If clicks have been added and they're saying 1/2", that's awfully coarse. Plus, my experience with a bunch of Leupold scopes has been that click adjustments weren't accurate anyway. Unless they've improved things, those 1/2" clicks could just as easily be 3/8" or 5/8".

If you want a really good 3-9 for about the same price, with good lens coatings and accurate tracking, get an Elite 3200. And for a little more, the FFII with ballistic plex reticle is just excellent.

I won a rifle at a banquet that had a VXI which is a leeetle bit better than a Rifleman. I'm a pretty big supporter of Leupold, but honestly I was very disapointed. Sold it post haste.

Also had a Pro-Staff on a 10/22. Didn't keep it long either, but IMO it was far brighter and clearer than the VXI.
As far as I know Nikon has a lifetime warranty. Might have to save the recipte, and wait a little longer than Leupold would require but it's something.

I'd get the Pro-Staff,,,,,,,,,Or better yet, save a little while longer and get a VXII. It'll last ya a lifetime.

Rifleman is junk. VX1 is just a bit more and is much better......

2muchgun..why is the rifleman junk /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gifi do agree on the 2nd 1/2 of your remark..i don't think it's "junk"..however..within its price range there are certainly other option's..has something happened that make's you think its junk..

I've never liked ANY of the lower end Leupolds. Not enough features for my money. I'd rather spend $300 for a good scope, than $200 for a marginal one. I don't do VX1's either, but would happily pay the extra $ for it in order to leave a Rifleman on the shelf.....

here's what i think..i've never owned a leupold above a xv1..it seem's..to really appreciate the benefits of a leupold..stepping up to the vx11 or vx111..is probably the way to go /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Put it this way, $100 more is a small price to pay for the extra features you get........

i do agree with ya.."however" i would be cautious about calling something "junk"..to me junk it something that simply doesn't perform..i have no love affair for the rifleman..again i'll state my opinion i wouldn't call it "junk"

it doesn't matter if i think it's better or not..i don't get where your coming from./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gifit seems your saying if you don't spend $300 on a leupold then get something else /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gifi do think the $200 leupold has value..as i said above i would think that the upper models would probably make a guy really appreciate what a great scope it is /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
