Leupold vx-3 4.5-15x50 vs Zeiss hd5 3-15x42

I have never sent either of these brands back for anything. However, I do know folks who have sent loops back
that they bought used with 0 problems.

I have loved some of the ziess glass that I have been allowed to play with...that being said, the turrets are backwards for me (not a big deal for some), and the repeated horror stories of CS keeps me away. I have a few vx-3's and the glass is right there, maybe a touch duller but most can't tell the difference and Loopy CS is legendary.

I would go to the store and handle both if possible. I love Leupold, but own 2 Zeiss as well.

I probably wouldn't pick a 50mm objective for a hunting scope. That's just me though.

Zeiss changed the turrets for the HD5 series. They turn the same way all the rest of American scopes do.

I am curious about the CS horror stories for Zeiss. I just had an experience with Zeiss CS and they treated me very well. Maybe I got lucky, and I'm glad I did if that is the case.

I pulled the trigger on a mark 4 4.5-14x40 lr/t with target turrets and duplex reticle. I thought about a vx-3 30 mm tube with CDS but I didn't want to be limited by caliber ,load ,or rifle .
