Leupold VX-III 1.5 - 5x20mm Illuminated Reticle

My three favorite calling scopes are the Sightron II 1.5x6x40mm, Leupold VX-II 1x4x20mm and the Elite 4200 1.25x4x24mm Ill. Dot. Sounds like your Leupold VX-III would be one of my favorites too.

I have one with a heavy duplex. Not IR. It is one of the best scopes Leupold makes IMO, and I have had a lot of different models........

I have a friend who put one on his AR and absolutely loves it. One thing frustrated him was having to go to 30mm rings and not getting any extra objective for it with the IR.

I opted for the Millet DMS 1-4x24 for my AR. It was hard for me as a Leupold lover but I'm 1/2 Dutch and... Same 30mm tube. Bigger objective seems to get me the same or better light as the Leup. I have used both, and would not trade (or spend the extra). I prefer the illuminated 1 moa dot inside the illuminated circle (they call it a "donut dot" reticle) also. The 1x is actually a little less. I have to dial the scope to about 1.3 to get true 1x but that is not a big deal and the 1x setting gives a HUGE field of view.

The Leup or any of the above listed scopes (AWS) will serve your purpose well.

Thanks all for the replies...yes, I intend to put it on an AR. Liked it when I saw it, but I am a Leupy bigot having owned 7 different Leupolds before thinking about this one.

I have been using one for a few years now. It actually is a dual use scope for me. I work overseas in Iraq and use that exact scope in a Larue mount on my issued M4. It has seen a few years of hard service and has held up perfectly.

When I travel home I put it on my personal Colt M4 that is set up exactly like my work gun and use it as a coyote/general purpose carbine.

It is truly an outstanding optic choice for my uses.

I bought a Leupold VX-3, one of the new scopes, in 1.5-5x and have it mounted on an also new FN Model 70 in 7-08. I can't think of a better scope for my digs, where shots are close.

Edit to add: I had the rifle out on Friday checking zero before the crowd hits the range sighting in for Deer season. We only have a bench for two shooters at a time, so it gets congested fast right befor our Deer season.
I have all of my scopes fitted with Leupold QD rings and bases to make storing in the gun safe less crowded; rifles nest better in the safe without scopes. So, I had the above scope off the rifle and wanted to see if it held zero since sighting it in a few months ago. I slapped the scope on, took one shot at 100 yards and it was dead center where it was before. I'll leave the scope on till after the season.
