Leupold VX-III or Zeiss Conquest

I bought a LVSF for a light weight calling gun and now I have to get a scope for it. I was trying to decide between the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 or Leupold VX-III 2-8x36. I know both would work great, but just want some opinions since they are the same price.

get the leopold 4.5x14x 50mm, 30mm tube with illuminated cross hairs. great for day or night hunting. i own all of them. leupold is made in USA and is great quality. Great warranty and fast if you have a problem.

I am Leupy thru and thru but I put a 3X9X40 Conquest on a 243 A-bolt that I really like. You can't go wrong with either one.

Wow it's a split decision. You have to get out the specs to compare them. The Leupold slightly edges the Zeiss with more eye relief along with more FOV and lighter weight. Equal warranty coverage but I think the Zeiss may be a little brighter to my eye. Leupold does not list a twilight factor. I have never owned a Zeiss scope but sure have considered it. A 3.5-10x40 Leupold is still my favorite. I would look at the Leupold VXII 4-12X50. It's a little more but worth it. I put one on my Kimber 22-250 and it's awesome. The larger objective lens really gathers light at early dawn or dusk. I got the Long Range Duplex. Very good field of view. It's a perfect calling scope IMO.

I own both. I love my Zeiss for glass. I love my Leupold for warranty and the custom options you can get for them.

If you're going light weight the Zeiss is 15oz vs 11.6oz for Leupold. Not sure if you can tell 3.4oz difference?

Can't go wrong with either.

Let me add the LVSF I bought is a .17rem so I'm not going to be breaking any distance shooting records. That is why I am staying on the lower end of the power scale but not to low so I can shoot out there if I have to.

It is unlikely you would ever need a 50mm objective. The reason being that under low light conditions you will probably not be using high power settings. A 40mm objective will be just as bright as a 50 up to about 7X. Only at the higher settings will a 50 be brighter and like I said; it is unlikely you will ever use high power settings in low light conditions.

I two Zeiss and 4 leupold and I agree with SuperSeal that Zeiss has glass and low light advantages but Leupold has more reticle options and great warranty so its what you value more.

new leupold's are not good ,a lot won't hold zero or move like they should.zeiss are top notch.i have sold all but one of my leupold's.it is older and works great.

There is still the advantage of a larger field of view. Also, no matter what power setting you're on you're still looking through the same number of lenses and the scope would be turned up to higher power at night. Better light gathering ability makes identifying your target easier.

I own both brands, and the Zeiss Conquest is a great scope. Mine is 3-9X50 and mounted on my AR. My scope purchases from now on will all be Zeiss.

Zeiss. Equal to or better than Leupold on every topic.

Plus 1

I have Lupys and Zeiss. I give the nod to Zeiss. Nothing brighter or more clear in the price range. I have been buying Leupold glass for over 30 years, but- the Zeiss wins this one.

I own both of those scopes. The glass on the Zeiss Conquest is better in clarity and resolution than the Leupold. Hands down. However, I have the 2.5X-8X on the same rifle as you and it balances very well. The Leupold is lighter and more compact and I like it, but the Zeiss glass is just superior
.
Good luck with your choice.
