I have a VX-L on my 243/308 savage switch barrel. I like it a lot, but I am not sure if the the low-mounting cutout really matters to me. I will say that it is very nice to have a scope that tracks perfectly on a switch barrel rig. Sighting in is a breeze. I was night hunting with my brother who has a VX-III, and I was able to see clearly through my scope for at least 30 minutes after him. That might be due to other factors too as my VX-L is a 4.5-14 and his VX-III is a 6.5-20. I also have the thicker BC reticle while he has the finer VH reticle.
