They are both very good entry level scopes. In my experience, the Nikon has a bit better light transmission, but similar clarity. The Leupold has better customer service. The Nikon has nicer adjustments, but the Leupy is more durable. I have had a half dozen of each over the years, and I have had to send back 4. Two buckmasters lost their zero on very heavy recoiling rifles, one Leupold blew out the seal and fogged up internally, and another Leupold didn't track right brand new from the store. I don't think one is better than another, just different.
