Here in Michigan the law states that a light or spotlight normally held in the hand is legal for night time coyote hunting. So I am assuming that an Optronics or Surefire light attatched to my Shotgun is illegal??? What do you guys think or Know??? YES OR NO?

Here ya go Directly from the DNR website :

Legal Artificial Light:
Only lights similar to the type ordinarily held in the hand or on the person may be used. An artificial light, including laser sights, of the type ordinarily held in the hand or on the person may be mounted on a person's clothing or firearm. Spotlights, floodlights, vehicle headlights and other artificial lights not similar to the type ordinarily held in the hand or on the person are illegal. The use of natural light, including night vision optics and scopes, is legal.

Good Luck-
Ben VW

John has an excellent set-up /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif. Can't have lights attached to firearms here in PA either /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif.

See if you can make a dimmer for it. You don't need all that power to see eyes.......and the closer they come the more you'll light 'em up anyway......

Don't know for sure if i need a dimmer with the red lense on it john, the other three guys who hunt with me actually complain that it isn't bright enough with he cover on it;i thought about using one of the others lenses that came with the light they are blue and yellow, but i don't know if it would be a good idea its hard to call'em in as it is and i would hate to blow an oppurtunity. Thanks for the advice though, i don't know if the scope mounted light i was going to get has a dimmer or not but i'm gonna check before i buy it.

2 mill candlepower and not bright enough? And you're using a red lens right now? That seems funny that your buddies are saying it's not bright enough.....how thick is the lens? IMHO, I wouldn't use any other color....please let me know.....

Looks to be maybe 1/4 in thick,i told them to get their eyes checked because i don't have any problems seeing what it is unless its way out or hiding in thick brush.I agree i would not use anything else either the red just doesn't seem to bother them unless its right in their face.
