Light for night hunting

Looking for a light to mount on an AR-15 for night hunting of hogs and coyotes in Texas, needs to have a removeable red lens cover.

Any suggestions?

There are many coon hunting lights out there that will work. I prefer Wheat Lights with the 5100 Wheat Head.

Type "coon hunting lights" into google or go here http://www.huntsmart.com/

I have a bracket that snaps onto a gun barrel and the light clips onto it. I got it at the above website. Red and Amber lenses are also available.

Something You might consider along with Your light: I put a Bushnell 3-9 X 40mm Firefly scope on My .308. It is bright, clear, has precise adjustments, and the Firefly reticle is fantastic. No problem making a shot with only moon light. They have six different models.

You can't go wrong with a Wheat mining light with a red lens cap. Kind of expensive but I have carried them at work and hunted with them for over 30 years. Many many times I have used the same light for 16 hrs straight without it going dead. Just keep them charged and watered and they last for years.

Warhawk,

Perhaps I have a setup that you might be looking for. I too have an AR - Bushmaster. I have a Simmons Atec 2.8x10 illuminated reticle scope mounted on in with Warne rings for the AR. I purchased a new Optronics night light that mounts to the scope with a special bracket. It has a 6 volt recharageable battery and a pressure switch that works great. When you press the switch, the light comes on, and when you release it, it goes off. The light came with a removable red lens. I ordered mine from Cabela's.

I haven't figured out how to post pictures on this site yet, so if you will send me a personal letter with your e-mail, I can send you some pictures.

I haven't used the light system yet, but I've got it if I need it later. I have used the Simmons scope and love it. I'd like to have another just like it. I think the illuminated reticles are the way to go for low light and night hunting situations.

Good hunting

I don't know how you are hunting but when we are in TX we hunt out of high chair systems with spotlights. What is your method of hunting in your area?
