Lightforce Lights

Been looking at buying the lightforce 170 spotlight, is it worth it or not ? And if whoever reads this has one how far are they good to in yards, thanks

Between my hunting partners and I we have several, I have two. How far, red lens or no lens? They are great lights, but their wiring is only fair when it comes to durability. Anything nearly equal would be way more expensive!
I've done crop damage work on deer to nearly 300 yds. with the red lens in place. The white light(no filter) will reach much farther. A lot depends on the scope you'll be using. My results above were with Leupold VXIII's with 50mm objectives. Use cheap scopes, you won't get that much distance.
For predator hunting at night I prefer shots inside 125 yds., but have killed foxes past 200. I can't tell a red from a grey at that distance with the red filter, though.
Good luck!

Ok thanks, I just didt wanna spend that much money and not be satisfied, yeah I cant tell a red from a grey at that distance either, I usually call them in wihin 50 yards or less then you can kill them with them with about any light, but usually my coyotes are around 100 to 200 yards thats what I was more worried about. Thanks for the info, oh yeah where is spotsy Va ? I'm from wythe co Va

tking,
Don't get me wrong, the Lightforce is as good as it gets for anywhere near that price. Knowing what I know, if I hunted as much as I do at night, I'd buy another Lightforce rather than not having one! Just be as gentle as practical with the wiring! I've used plastic cable ties and doubled the wire back on the cig. plug and on the light to provide strain relief and it has worked well for me. If you pull the lighter plug by the wire, eventually it will fail....probably sooner than later! They do have a one year warranty, so if anything breaks in that time period, you'll get it replaced or fixed. At the end of the year, you should know how to fix or improve it so you won't have any more problems /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
Do some searches on lightforce here and you'll get plenty of info and even some pics of modifications to improve the durability of your light. Don't do any mods until the warranty is up, though!

The lightforce is the best light on the market!I have tried just about every light made and this is the best.I have a 170 and I can take a shot at the body at night instead of trying to take a shot at just the eyes. You can see alot better.2 to 300 yards for sure!tking see you at the next hunt!!!Chad,By the way I got mine on this forum from Rickh2 he is a light force dealer.

Hey thanks for the info on the light, what is the problem with the wiring again ? I ordered the light kit by the way

Solder joints! I've had them break in the male cig. plug and in the factory splice under the heat shrink tube where the inline switch was added to the wiring. You can't beat the light itself! Rick at Tufflights will treat you well!
I would suggest getting a couple extra of the plastic mounting pieces that screw to the bottom of the light. This is the piece that actually slides onto the mount on your scope or shotgun barrel mount. If you should drop your gun or bump the light accidentally this part can break....it is meant to, but could end your hunt without a spare.

lightforce 170 is the best money i have spent.....

the pile of cheaper lights I have, cost me a lot of fur...

I got rid of the cig lighter attachment....went to tractor supply spent 5.00$ on a couple two prong conn...problem solved

I have a lightforce 170 and am pretty much not impressed.
This is the third year I've hunted with it. I have probably worked out all the bugs by now. It's finally dependable, but still huge and noisy and the battery is big.
I will say if I ever want to hunt in big open country that light will be hard to beat by any I've been around. For close in shots like we have here on called critters my buddy has a Primos 350 yd light that is much more suitable.
The 6v battery fits in his poket and the light is nice and compact.
The lightforce seems to have a huge following so hopefully you'll be happy with your purchase.
Good luck.

Lightforce lights have the best focus for a spot light I have EVER SEEN .....

They are BRIGHT and well focused.

So much so that you need to include the adjustable reostat when you order it.

Hey AO I have a question on a similar lightforce thread in another area. I am hunting in the woods and meadows of PA and don't think I need all the light the lightforce seems to throw. I have heard wonderful commnets about the lightforce and the distances the beam travels. I hunt few fields just because we don't have many where there are coyote sign so I do hit the fields sometimes but spend most of my time on the fringe. Do you feel the lightforce is overkill for the limited field area I will be hunting?

they do have a dimmer
on them turn it down to where you want it,and it will also make the battery last longer, thats a win-win for you

We carry the 170 Night Hunters for $279.95 And

170 Walkabouts for $249.95 (Shipping Included)

Thats a 15 to 25 dollar savings on shipping.......

It's hard to say if its overkill, since it does have a dimmer. My problem with it is the size of the light and battery pack.
Just last night we walked out to the edge of a big natural meadow with oak and brush on the fringes. I shined my eyeball finding light out there and saw nothing then swept my lightforce across the same area and it lit up with deer eyes out about 200 to 275 yards.
After we got done calling I had my buddy shine his primos 350 yard gunlight out there, it couldn't pick up any eyes. I guess the lightforce redeemed its self a little bit!
My light would pick up the eyes but not make out the body so it doesn't do much good anyhow. For most of our shooting on called critters the primos 350 is in my opinion a better choice.

I have only hunted with a hand-held big spotlight /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif. I see some downfalls to having a light attached to the gun; you have to pick up the gun and point it every where you want to spot /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif. But having it attached and shining it on a target sure is better /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gifthan holding a spot with one hand and holding the gun with the other. I guess I have an entire off season to decide what light I want to get /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif.
