Lightforce Spotlight - Help!

All,

Does anybody have a Lightforce spotlight? I have the Walkabout Kit, includes a spotlight, battery pack and red filter. When I first got the light I anticipated a product that would be second to none based on the light weight of the product plus all of the good reviews that I got prior to purchasing. I've had the light about a year and a half now and it is a DISASTER. I've had 2 issues with it that don't seem to get better. I've sent it in twice already due to the power button "collapsing" into the handle housing of the light and all we are doing is simply pushing the power button normally to turn it on. I just used it this past weekend and it happened again, so I'm stuck with sending it in again. Lightforce customer service is nice about it and replaces it, but it's getting cumbersome sending it in. Also, I have had issues with the battery pack, it never has worked right and from the word go it did not hold a charge well. This weekend it finally went south and stopped working alltogether.

Has anybody else had challenges with this light that was so highly decorated and almost revered nationwide? When the light actually works, it's great... lightweight and a great beam. But I tell you the reliability of this light is simply terrible and I can't dance around it anymore. If anybody has any suggestions as to what I should do OR suggesting a different spotlight could you please throw the suggestions my way? Any advice anybody?

Chris -

First off, I love the product. However, I've had problems like others. I have basically wired around the in-line switch and cigarette lighters, like others on this board (varment whacker even sent me pictures of his mods)

I used 2 prong plugs, much like the 4 prong plugs for a trailer light setup, and so far have been happy.

I like the light weight and I LOVE the beam and quality of red light. The switches and connectors leave something to be desired, however.

Others on the board have come up with other interesting fixes - search the board back over a year or two and you can find some good stuff.

PM me if you want any ideas- I now own 2 of them and do not want to hunt with anything else.

I have a Golight wireless remote control Stryker spot on top of my hunting vehicle and have been so happy with that I just bought their Profiler II hand spot. It is very light, very bright and is available with a snap on red lens. It uses a Lithium Ion battery that will run for an hour, recharges in two hours and will run off the internal battery or a 12 volt cigarette lighter power cable. It has a LED convenience light that is pretty bright and will run for 50 hours on a full charge. It can be recharged using either a 12 volt source or 120 Volt ac. I am curious if anyone else has tried this product? Check it out at: Golight Profiler II

Is it common to have to rebuild/rewire/send back to the factory repeatedly these lightforce lights? The way they're constantly plugged on this site, not to mention the high price they're marked at makes me wonder why exactly are they priced 2-3 times higher than any other spotlight on the market? From my experiences, other lights that have shorter run time and not as bright of a light at least work correctly...Inquiring minds would like to know. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I've had issues with mine and I've hunted with two other guys that had problems with theirs. It is still the best light to build off of and modify to suit your needs. The lightweight and brightness are the big selling points for me. Replace the switch, the plug and maybe the BPS and you'll have the best light you can get as far as I know. I've hunted with many spotlights over the years and would not want to be without a Lightforce.

i have had the same problem with mine but it is a common fault among most spotlight brands eg;cigarette plug plays up and on/off switches break.Thinking of chopping the plug off and putting a different type automotive power plug on it one that locks together better.I also opted out and got a battery pack from somwhere else and got a battery and carry bag was heaps cheaper to and holds heaps more charge and longer running time.Good thing about the lightforce its nice and light.
