Really sweet. But the price has really went up. Believe I seen a Montana 223 bare sell on 24hr the other day for $1200 alone.

Oh No!!!! Boy I hope not.

While I understand the desire for a light weight firearm from a carry standpoint, or for a smaller build person, every time I've done a project in that area, I found that I needed some decent weight (7#+) for really good stability, especially for longer range shots..

Lucky for me that in my area a long shot is 250yds or less. Off of shooting sticks I can consistently shoot moa of Bobcat at those distances. The Kimber Montana's really balance nice with their slight weight forward feel which I'm sure is because they use a 22" barrel. I have a Rem. Model 7 that weights a bit more than 7#'s and is difficult to shoot at the same distances. But I'm sure its what each person likes and feels comfortable with. I'm very fortunate in that my Montana's will shoot as accurate as most varmint weight barreled rifles do.
I should add that I do shoot a lot off hand using a sling. This is with my sporter weight rimfires. I use a 2" metal spinner at 50yds. to practice this with. Its a great teacher.

First ever 3 shot group at 100 off bipod, and i'm not a benchrest shooter....It'd put them in same hole if the nut behind the gun did his part....

Some say it does.
The old BR guys I know use the slowest twist that will stabilize the bullet they plan to shoot.

Probably not a big enough difference to matter with a hunting rig.
Some say it does and enjoy talking (arguing) about it though.

I twist my 224 rifles 14 and shoot 52SMK's.
Only time I'd go faster is an AI'd chamber (which ain't a bad idea:)

It got it's first blood on a skunk at 438 yards last nite a badger at 225 and another skunk at 356. It's working pretty good! Took it out on first coyote calling trip this morning but no dogs wanted to play.

I think it's a keeper!!

Charlie, that is pretty much what I have been told also, I am not a BR shooter, so I just kind of took their word for it. I also heard the slower twist can give you more speed over a fast twist, but again I can't prove it.

I had a Rem 700 223 Improved put together with a Shilen SS 1-12, 4 contour at 22" long, not exactly a lightweight but it is a shooter.
