Limb Saver..... Recoil Pads... make a differance....

I say Limb Saver...I'm assuming that's what it is on my Savage 12, 223 when I bought it used. It's super spongy soft and about 1" thick.

The reason for bringing this subject up is because I was shooting my Savage 12, 204 yesterday along with the 223... and realized that the 223 had less felt recoil than the 204... and the 204 is a heavier rifle as well. It suprised and dissapointed me until I noticed that the recoil pad on the 223 was more than twice as soft as the 204. Maybe all of you knew that... but it was new to me yesterday.

From now on... it's Limb Savers Baby...

Have you guys noticed this as well... or am I imagining things...

I do like the limb saver pads. I have quite a few "R3" pads as well. (Its a limb saver made for Rem) Its amazing how they soak up an immense amount of recoil.

There a'int no taming the HMR. I have a Vais break and a recoil pad and still get shy shooting it off a lead sled.

I hope I wasn't saying that my 223 kicked too much... or even the 204... because they are sweet to shoot... it's just that I had noticed a real difference and wanted to see what you guys thought.

But I also put moleskin padding between my eyes when shooting the 17 hmr...

see what you started foxy...

I have one on my slug gun that is used during our firearm season in IL. It made a huge difference in felt recoil. My 12yr old nephew didn't like shooting my gun until we switched to a limb saver pad. Now I can't get him to use his own slug gun during deer season.

Yep, the Limbsaver pad makes my Benelli turkey gun bearable to shoot....not fun, but bearable!

Just trying to save some poor guy that may be new to shooting the dragonslayer.

, whats a biscuit doing shooting a 17hmr? LOL!

I have had good luck with several Limbsaver products that I have bought and used. Their recoil pads really work. I was shocked at the difference it made. I have bought two of their slings and they are hunter friendly also.

The sad thing is i do have a slip over limbsaver pad on my 17 but just to make the stock longer for prone shooting. i do get some weird looks at the range

You don't have to be embarrassed by admitting the bite of the 17 makes you all flinch after awhile, it's ok..we've all been there

bought my 9yo son a Rossi 20ga single shot for christmas. Then I thought the recoil might be a bit much since the gun only weighs about 4pounds and he's be shooting slugs in it...LOL

So i went to the store and bought a slip-on limbsaver recoil pad for him. I am amazed at how much it reduced the felt recoil. My 9yo son just loves to shoot that gun.....Of course he never got to shoot it without the limbsaver though...LOL

As for the original posters gun pics, that pad on the synthetic stocked gun is not a limbsaver. It is Savages factory "P.A.D." recoil pad. They are very thick, soft, and work pretty well for a factory pad. The pad on the Savage VLP, Im not sure. It doesnt look factory, but it should say Limbsaver on the back if it is one.
