lion and bird hand calls

Does anyone know of a good hand call that produces some bird in distress sounds? Is there a hand call that makes lion sounds? thanks

Any of the higher pitched enclosed reed calls make good bird in distress sounds. Many open reed calls can be used to reproduce bird in distress. When you blow the calls, flutter your tongue like you are making machine gun sounds like you did as a kid. Haydels has a couple of calls to reproduce bird sounds.

I make a cougar call that is tuned to do certain cougar vocalizations, and it comes with an instruction cassette. This call will also make bird distress sounds if you trill your tounge off roof of your mouth while blowing. The instruction tape does not mention the bird distress, but I know that it will do it with some preactice.

I have a few bird sounds down loaded from the call I make, you might enjoy listening to them. Go to the sound section on my home page and open that link.
Click on the header below the player to hear and pick one sound at a time.

Alot of the open reed calls make good bird sounds, criter call pee wee is a good one, and about all my custom open reeds I have do very well at bird destress, Tonys calls, Songdogs, BradH, are just a few.

The AP-6 and PC -3 are both hard to beat for bird distress and they are bite calls.

Also alot of the coaxer calls do well with bird sounds!

I have heard alot of good things in Rich Cronks loin call!

Thanks Crapshoot. I couldn't tell if Rich was serious or not, so I was hoping someone else saw the joke in it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The best bet is to get someone else to blow Rich's Loin Call.

Dang ..... you got me typing it that way too! Anyway, what you want is not to have to run and shoot at the same time. Your partner can concentrate on running and you the shooting.

OK settling down.

I have one of Rich Cronks L I O N calls and I really like it.

The instruction tape is very good. I get enjoyment just listening to Rich's style of teaching. Layed back but quite informative.

The biggest mistake you will make with this call is to blow too hard! It needs very little air and mine will virtually lock up on too much air! Blow softly.

I suggest listening to the sounds Rich makes A LOT. You don't get to hear these cougs much in the wild. And you want to practice quite a bit.

Think about it. Otes, you hear these lots and can "picture" a sound in your mind (in fact a multitude of sounds) but these cats are few and far between and not the "blabber mouths" that coyotes are.

A good friend of ours has a WT, he hunts our land on the reservation for the tribe. After a few nights sitting with him, those coug sounds were practically branded into my brain.

A few days later, say 3:30 am while I was still in bed, I thought I heard one baby whistle and one female response fairly close to the house. Dogs had been going nuts for the past several bedtimes AND I found adult cougar scat just 60 yds north of our house.

I swear that I was awake or did I dream it? Still not sure, but the scat can't lie.

Makes you real aware of your surroundings!!!!

The other day in the shop one afternoon I swear I heard one baby whistle, no female answer this time. Going nuts??

Before you go on a hunt, play the instruction cassette and "sing along". That will help you to make the right sounds.

I also found that other sounds could be made with the Cronk Cougar Call.

See no LOIN there!
