Lip squeaking methods?

I agree that lipsqueaks are deadly. We use them to communicate to each other to announce a coyote approaching, as well.

The call that Moonlightmadness is talking about is the Kiss Me Coaxer. It's basically an lipsqueak amplifier. It's not the best recording, but here is one:

Sound recording This is a lipsqueak by itself, then through the call, by itself, then through the call again. This was recorded across the room.

Good sounds! I listened to the Kiss Me Coaxer (great name!) and since I'd not listened to the Pied Piper's went back and checked his. FWIW my lip squeaks (lower lip against teeth) are much higher pitched than either. That's not saying better, just higher. Mine usually start close to the highest pitch Pied Piper did and go up from there, with a few lower sags at times. I usually don''t get a lot of volume from it, but usually the critters are close anyway.

On a slight tangent, I've always liked the ability to call critters by voice and sounds that don't require a call. That way if I happen to run across something I want to call when I don't have a call along, or don't want to carry a specialized call, I can call them anyway. I have two friends who do all of their elk calls by voice alone. They are two of the best elk hunters I know of on the planet. I never carry a moose call, just voice even when moose hunting, and consider them one of the easiest to call animals. Have called bucks with no call but voice, plus predators. It gives a hunter flexibility.

Having said that, I rarely venture anywhere outdoors without a rabbit distress call around my neck, and have used it on Mt. Goats, caribou, all kinds of fun stuff. And sometimes it even works!

Hey guy dont sweat it. I use bi pods and my mouth is right by my hand so when I have a yote that is out aways just get those lips on the back of your hand and still have the cross hairs on him. When you learn to do the lip to the hand then you will never leave home with out it.
