List of great classic movies......

Will,,,I would have to add "Song of the South" to your list of 'pre-50s' genre...It's too bad the movie industry caved into the Political Correctness and ceased to produce, or allow the showing of, the original version back in the early '50s..(I did find a DVD version online)

I learned a lot from the tales of 'Uncle Remus' about dealing with different types of people in that movie as a kid...The "Brer Fox" character can be found in many walks of life and the "Tar Baby" has had many uses along the path of life...

I saw that "Paint Your Wagon" was mentioned a few times.. I really like that one as well. An interesting fact that I just found is that in the UK when the movie and soundtrack came out, the song "Wandering Star" sung by Lee Marvin actually knocked the "Beatles" out of the Number 1 spot on the music charts for 3 weeks. Just a bit of Trivia that I found interesting.

Yep, love "Paint Your Wagon". Mariah is another good song. I could do without having to hear Eastwood sing though. I get a little melancholy whenever it comes on now. Reminds me of my late brother Ben. ([beeep] I'm having a hard time accepting his passing it goes round and round in my mind day in and day out) It was his favorite movie. We would listen to the soundtrack on the way up to the Eastern Sierras to go fishing. Not Ben Rumson, other Ben. "Muds a good sign" Crude is good luck". Grizz

Most of these flicks I have on DVD, but if I was new and as said was going into manhood and I was mesmerized by Hollywood, by watching these I'd have no time to do outdoor stuff or re-load. Best to stick with the outdoors as these other things will come later.

Interesting that 3 of the movies considered to BE the top 3 on many lists have not been mentioned.

Citizen Kane is considered to be #1 by many, followed by Casablanca and The Godfather.

I don't know that I have ever seen Citizen Kane, but The Godfather has got to be in the top few.

Oh yes....many, many films that I could mention that are on my personal list, including Casablanca (or any Bogart film, for that matter). But I didn't want to take up an entire page by myself.

I know Citizen Kane is a true classic. However, I admit that the only film I ever liked that had Orson Welles, was The Third Man.

And, although I know there are lots of folks who love the Godfather movies...I never cared for a single one of them. But, hey, that's why we all are entitled to our own opinions, right?
