i know this is gonna seem like the other posts about this but i have a new question...i was recently on ebay and saw a live catch coyote trap that basically was box where all 4 sides folded up and the trigger was a piece of bait where the coyote had to walk into the center pull on the bait and all 4 doors would slam down creating a cage....cost was in the $400 range...anyone used this trap with any success or any other live catch trap on coyotes

sorry they aparently arent selling anymore right now that i can find...it was being sold by iron city trap company but i dont see them selling anymore

Deersniper, you're lucky that all of them are "sold-out". it'd be a cold day when a coyote would be caught in a contraption like that. i can see the skunk, dillo, and possum, even coons? if you want to take yotes alive, best to snare them, or use foot-traps. at 24" square a yote would almost need to back-up against one corner, and then pull the trigger to get caught. the ones i play with are not as friendly.

actually red that link doesnt show the actual trap i saw lol...its a really downsized model...the one i saw spanned 10ft when open fully

A coyotes not dumb enough to put itself in that situation. A bobcat on the other hand just may. There was an article a while back in the Trapper and Predator Caller mag about using white 5 gallon buckets when there is snow on the ground and conibears and bait.

They can be caged, but it's so rare that it wouldn't be worth the effort or money. I'd go with laminated footholds of the correct size to catch them alive......even non lethal snare set-ups work well. I just wouldn't spend the money on that thing.

Here's a rare one in a cage......

It's a coyote that Stacy Yancy trapped out in CA. He's a big time bobcat trapper out there and he accidentally caught that coyote. I love the look on that coyote's face! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

yep, i remember the story, the CA cage, give or take a little. they've written in the American Trapper also. one in a hundred? maybe. tj

He does catch quite a few grays and even badgers in addition to the loads of bobcats they catch....but VERY few coyotes. Nice guys!

Coyotes get into hen houses often enough.
I wonder if you could take an old shed and turn it into some sort of fake hen house. Splash around a few cans of chicken broth. Have a door that lowers after the coyote steps on a catch. Wooden floor so they couldn't dig out.
