LIVE TRAPPING COYOTES

You all were talking about fox/coyote pens? I hunt alot in Eastern Ky. And there is a guy there that has several large pens...500-900 acers. They run there about every night, they have fox and coyotes in the pens. I think his name is freeman sexton? He has had these pens for years. The train alot of pups and stuff and he even broke a couple beagles for me from running fox/coyotes and deer. Its in Carter co, Ky. There are guys that come from all over to run in the pens, The got club houses in there and all kinds of stuff. I deer hunt right next to the pen and have seen several dog chases! Its cool! Didnt know if any of you all new the man or not?

its no big deal catching a live yote. i carry a hog catcher in my truck at all times.its a pole appro 4 ft long and has a cable in the middle attached to a handle. the handle locks and wont release until you release it.when the yote is caught or bayed up with hounds put the snare cable around the yotes head and tighten it. it will go any where you want it to go. you have to work fast cause it will choke it down if you dont get it released. i have loaded many yotes in my dog box in my truck and on my 4 wheeler. you dont neep rope or ductape or 2 people. most of the pen owners catch the yotes the same way.

Yeah vargy, you don't need two people. But with some of the bigger coyotes that like to put up a fight it can be handy and easier on equipment and the coyote. Not required though just a little easier and then you don't have to choke the coyote down.

I've had some coyotes you could lead away with baling twine probably. Have released coyotes that let me walk right up and cut the snare off. Then they just sat there looking at me and I had to shoo them away. Others are trying to get a piece of you the minute you get out of the truck.

BTW, are you referring to trapped coyotes or ones you have caught with your dogs? I would imagine a coyote is pretty passive after a pursuit.

Good hunting, Curt

Good ketch-all pole make handling live coyotes a lot easier. Once you noose them up, they calm down. Duct tape works as do traps wired together. I normally just put the coyote in small cage traps to transport. Once you develop a system that your comfortable with, it's easy....
