Loading 243 and 58 grain V-Max

Hey guys! Just got a Ruger #1 243 from a member on here and need to work up loads for it. It is gonna be strictly a coyote gun so was looking at loading 58 grain V-max for it. What powders do you guys recommend for this combo? Also any other advise will be greatly appreciated!

I'd start with some 4895, or similar burn speed with a lighter bullet in the 243. It may be hard to find if you don't have a supply. There would be other powders close by(burn rate) with data available too.

IMR 4064 a half g below max. per Hornady Manual, Remington LR primer, 2.625" COL
This worked best in my rifle but it is gas operated R25, IMR 4064 produced best results in this rifle regardless of bullet weight..seems like anyway.

I have had good luck with 58 grain hornys but sierra 55 blitzkingshoot better for me. Both bullets i use varget around 43.5 grains.

I run Ramshot Big Game under 58 grain V-Max's. Meters great through my Dillon powder throwers.

With the 58 z-max, I like 43 grs. of H4895 and a Rem 9 1/2 primer with Rem brass. Bullet is seated at 2.650 oal in a Savage model 11 with 22" barrel. That load gives about 3,740 fps and shoots tight groups. Same powder in an older lot shot very well with 42.5 grs. using Wolf LR primers.

Thanks guys! I forgot I had a couple pounds of varget in the safe so I loaded some test loads with that last night. Hoping to get out and try them tomorrow!

Squeak, my rifle shot 43.5 grs. of Varget with very good groups using the 58's, but was in the mid 3,500's velocity wise. Hope it works out for you.

Thanks for the heads up! I was kinda hoping for more velocity but if it shoots tight I can't complain with that. And I am only using varget for the time being. Plan on getting something else when weather permits more test loads

44 grains is safe in my Remington 700 with a 22" barrel and I get 3800+ with 58 grain bullets and it clover leafs them.

My Savage 11 shot clover leaf groups with 44.6 grs of IMR 4895, at 3850 fps area.

49g W760 will spit them at about 3870 fps in a 22" bbl.

I would keep them between 3500 and 3600 fps. I had issues with splashes over 3600 fps and shots under 200 yards
