Loading for the 32 Win Spcl

I want to start loading for my Grand Father's mod 94.

Its a 32 spcl. It's in rough shape, but shoots rather well. I think it will still be fun for deer at reasonable ranges. I want to shoot cast bullets, moderate speeds to reduce leading.

1. IIRC, 30-30 brass can be re-sized for the 32. True?

2. I have also beet told that most 30-30 data can be used, as long as you work up. (like any other load...)

3. I have considered making some black powder cartridges as well as smokeless. Just for nostalgia, I suppose.

Thanks in advance for comments or help!

I have a pre 64 32 win that I shoot cast bullets in with h4198 you can neck up 30-30 brass but I see 32 brass all the time, if you don't cast the Laser cast bullets shoot well. I shot my first deer with that rifle and it still works pretty good today.

If you want to load black powder its just like loading black in a straight wall case you just need the right bullet lube some type of wad I use .030 vegetable fiber but you could punch them out of tablet backing and most important slug the bore and use the proper sized bullet

Your 32 Winchester Spcl should have a 1 in 16 inch twist, which makes it suitable for black powder.

It also should have a .321" groove Diam. Which limits your bullet choice in jacketed bullets to 170gr.

I would look hard at Hornady's 170gr FP, as well as their 165gr FTX bullets.

The 32 Win Spcl is a good round that shoots well. Keep the barrel clean though because accuracy will go south fast with the -16 twist if neglected.

30-30 data can be used for starting loads, then work up.

30-30 cases can be resized, but must be fire formed.

I have one too, 1949.

You will need a crimp die. I got mine from Lee. I had to send a case loaded with a bullet to Lee. It was $25 plus shipping. It takes 6 to 8 weeks. I do not like the RCBS crimp die, the Lee does great job.

Find an old lyman reloading book on ebay. It will list loads and bullets.

Mine has a Lyman folding two leaf sight 6W and a Lyman 1ADA tang sight. Heck the sights are worth more than the rifle.

Make sure the inside rail screws are tight. I had to make an off set screwdriver for mine.

Have fun!!!
