Loctite Red or Blue??

Are there any people out there that can give me advice on mounting scope rings? I pretty much have the basic down but have a question about screwing the ring mounts to the rifle. Here is my question....When screwing the base of the ring mount to the top of the rifle do you use Loctite? If so, is there an advantage or disadvantage between Loctite Red (high Strength) or Loctite Blue (medium strength)? I have no plans on removing the rings so I'm good with a permanent thread locker or should I be???

I use neither. I have always used just a tiny bit of my wife's fingernail polish on the screw threads. Has always seemed to work & they're still easy to back out.

I have used blue for years. After seeing loosening bases in heavy caliber guns, I started with loctite.
Aluminum snugs up well, and does not need anything when it is aluminum to aluminum, but when alu/steel it's not so sure.

I use it in everthing but my AR, and the only downside is that it leaves goo on the threads when you take them out. CLP will take it off, and I use a little steel wool gently to get it out of threads.

Just my 02, but it has always worked for me.

+1 nail polish. Never use red on anything that you may have to remove at some point. Also loctite works by expanding when it dries so be careful using it in blind holes especially in aluminium. It will crack

Don't ever use red unless you can put heat to the item to remove it. Red does smell good though...

I'm a mechanic and I've been putting locktite on aluminium snowmobile tunnels and clutches for years and I've never seen it crack.

I've been turning wrenches for 12 years on everything from Cat D8's and steel mill rolling stands to 1200hp open wheel dirt modifieds and trust me...you put loctite on a small diameter tight tolerance steel in aluminium blind hole and it will crack. Ive got boxes of parts busted to prove it.

I use none myself.

Purple is for air lines.

Blue is all you need for firearms. It holds but the screws can be removed without heat.

Do not use red.

It sounds like this is turning into a drag queen contest

for your application, just ffwd the video till you see the door knob on this video start to mount the rings...

Got it, sa-friggin-weet! You gave me several pointers I would not have ever thought of...move slack in rings forward, using liquid steel to take torque out of mount, leveling on black line and adjusting eye relief on mid power. I learned more than I had ask about in regards to what type of Loctite to use. By the way, I liked the bug-eyed coyote, nice shot, especially in slow mo.

plumbers "pipe dope" works very well for holding threads tight, but also gives a good release if you ever need to remove them
