How are the 300 win mags past that?
Barrel life?

I would like a .338 Lapua, but its just to darn expensive

I have an old Rem. in 300 Win. Mag that has close to 900 Rds. down the tube so far ( just checked my records last week ). I just had it in the shop for removal of the MZ Break and recrowned. While He had it I got him to check the throat and bore. He said everything looks great, with very minimal throat erosion.

Get a Savage accutrigger accustock model in 7MM or 300 Win for around $600. Put a $300 Nikon or Leupold on it, throw on a bipod on it and you have a 1K gun.

I have a 7mm with a Nikon BDC on it and developed my own load first time out to 800 it hit the 16 inch gong no problem. First shot I missed wide right as my windage adjustment was not enough next 4 shots all hammered home the gong. This of course was after load development and get a really good load all figured out and then going to the Nikon spot on software and plugging in all the numbers. After doing that the print out you get from their website is frightfully accurate. Killed my mule deer this year with it at 580 lasered, with 1 shot!

7mm mag....many great used guns out there. 7mm mag seems to be out of favor these days, which makes them more affordable on the used market. Why buy new?

I'm making my 7mm Rem Mag into a 300 Win Mag. I liked the 7mm, but I miss having a 30 caliber in my arsenal...

What planet are you living on mpmax???

7 mag out of favor??? Highly doubt that. You base this info off what??

Its becoming ever more popular for LR shooting and hunting with the great advent of some of the newer/sleeker 7mm bullets on the market these days.

Great performance to 1K that wont break your bank or shoulder, with great accuracy and decent barrel life.

I've seen a dramatic increase in 7 mags being more popular then ever the last few years. I have worked loads for more 7 mags for people in this time then any other cartridge as well. I must be missing something???

It'll continue to be one of, if not THE most popular mag in the US, and for good reason, because it WORKS! And works GREAT in the right hands...

Here's a diffrent one, how about a 280 AI. There's a couple factory factory options. If not 300WSM or if you can handle recoil, one of the 338s.

I would skip 30 cal all together and go with a 7mm:
280AI, 7mm Rem Mag, 7mm Dakota or STW.
If I didn't go with a 7mm I would jump to a 338: RUM, Edge, Lapua...
