long shot moose draw in CO

Seems my bro in law, the one who takes great pleasure in reminding me of past fupahs either in hunting or shooting has drawn a coveted Colorado moose license. After many years of applying finally got the 'luck of the draw'.

Couldn't happen to a better guy. Anyone else ever draw a CO moose ?

No, There aren't to many of those beasts wandering around this area. A few in Taylor park

Living here has spoiled me, it is hard to travel very far to do anything when it's just as easy to walk out the back door and do most things.

Congrats, Now if I could only have his luck with a Mountain sheep tag

Well now I know who got MY moose tag!!! Tell him congrats for me. Will be looking forward to hearing about his hunt and seeing some photos.

I was looking at draw stats yesterday.
You get the pref points out of the way.. then there are a bunch of people with weighted points as well waiting in the wind.
1187 people had like 8 weighted points and 633 people had 7 weighted points, 878 had 6 points.

At this rate if I started applying I could possible get a moose tag in about 20-25 years.

I was going to, but at a draw age of 65 I'm not sure I would want to any more.

What area SKB??

Not sure. I will have to ask him this weekend. Goin down for a little pd shootin and still try to stay out of the way of the farming operation. I know its in North Park so I would guess like Walden area. I'll get a GMU #.
I know he's been applying since I've known him ...over 10 years I'd say.

That's great he got one! It's almost easyer to see moose than elk in North Park. I have seen them in all 5 GMU's there including my yard in Walden a few times. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

race4hills you live in Walden??? Got any advice on where I can start to look for antelope?? I drew unit 16 and have never been up that way. Planning on making a couple weekend trips before the season.

Gl on the moose hunt. Preference points around here are just about useless. So many people are maxed out they're odds aren't any better than anyone else it seems.

I started putting in for cow tags since the odds are slightly better than astronomical.

The paved road to Lake John from Walden is the line. There are a few big ones (well into the record book size) over there not many but a few.

Lake John is just North of the boundary for the unit. The tag is good in units 16,17, and 171 so I have lots of area to find a good one.

Thanks guys,

Guy
