lookin for a good pistol to carry while coyote hunting

I have looked at it but the availibility has kept me from gettin one. In my area I just pack my G17.

can't go wrong with a .357 for field and home use. So many good loads for whatever you want to do and you can shoot .38's for cheaper practice.

G-20 glock 10mm. Slightly more punch then .357 with 15 rounds. Reliable as a top. I have a few hundred 10mm, 500 rounds of .40sw, and 1,000 rounds of .22lr.

There has never been a single failure with the glock 10mm barrel.

There was 1 failure on the very first round I tried to load in the chamber with the aftermarket .40 sw barrel. It has been perfect since the first time I let the slide go.

The advantage arms .22lr kit failed about 3 or 4 times in the first 200 rounds. now 1,000 rounds and its never failed. I clean every 500 rounds.

Great to shoot all the calibers from one platform for cheap practice.

Its also very light weight. Its lighter then most revolvers.

You can put a light on it at night in the tent or trailer if you want.

If was going to get a .357 revolver it would be one of the titanium super light deals from s&w. What good is a heavy gun you end up leaving in the truck?

Here I am coyote hunting in the cleavland NF with the glock for the first time.

Its in a simply rugged holster with chester puller conversion. It is one sweet holster that carries well on the hip, shoulder rig, and IWB. Rob can make you one for any gun. I prefer it on the hip when calling cuz all the breathing makes the chest setup squeek. The chest is holster is nice on long hikes and fishing with waders.

Ruger DA's are solid as rocks. I have had a security six, sp101 and a GP, all in .357, at one time or another. All very solid guns that you can bet your life on to go bang when you pull the trigger.

+100 for the Colt Trooper. Mine is the 6" and we go target shooting at 100 yards with it. Ahhh, but I digress...

I was really going to suggest a mid-size 22lr semi-auto like a Browning or something. Nice little gun to dispatch something dying too slowly. And fun to shoot at other times.

mk 1, 2 , or 3 make good "finish" shots.... a good 1911, imo, is like an extension of your arm, 45 acp has decent knockdown and a big "get the heii out of here " factor...

Definitely look at the .327fed. I really like my .32 H&R and the .327 is just more of a good thing. It shoots flatter than the .357, the .327 has less recoil and if you choose to shoot .32 H&R in the gun it has even less recoil. In smaller guns like the Ruger SP101 you get 6 shots instead of 5, in the Ruger Blackhawks you get 8 instead of 6. If you can, you may try to find a .32H&R Ruger Single Six. Great little gun, accurate and around $450 last time I checked for NIB guns. Price does seem to bounce around up to $600 since they stopped making them but it has come down this year and I've seen quite a few in the price range I stated.

Check here: http://www.gunblast.com/Ruger-327s.htm

Now the .327 isn't perfect. Ammo in .32H&R can be hard to find (compared to the .38sp or .357) and .327 is even harder to find. Snake shot isn't available either. So what it comes down to is at the current time the .32's are reloader calibers. Not a bad thing though. .32 cast lead bullets are cheaper than .357 cast and it uses less powder.

No matter what caliber you deside on check out the Ruger SP101's with a 4" barrel.

I don't think there is a perfect gun made that fits all of us. Some like auto's, some revolvers, some single actions, some double actions. Truth be told, a .22LR could very well be the most useful woods bummin sidearm out there. Putting down wounded critters, impromptu small game hunting, aggressive tin can defence and cheap practice. You are already carrying a big gun do you need another?

I had considered a .22 mag as here in Michigan if you hunt at night you must use a rim fire or a shotgun.
But I went with a Ruger Single Six in .32 H&R mag. With the cost of 22 mag ammo I can reload .32 mag cheaper or for the same cost.
I can't hunt at night with it but it's mainly a finisher or close up second shot with small game (other) an option.
and I wanted something "different".
The .32 mag is fun to shoot , accurate enough for hunting (3" groups) off hand at 25 yrds. better with a rest and with a 115gr hard cast flat point loaded up to about 1000fps. it hits purty hard.
The .327 mag would be very cool but I bought the little Ruger before the new Mag cartridge became available and I 'm very happy with it. The Single Six is light , easy to carry, hits hard enough for about any critters I'm likely to meet around here and fun its to shoot...

I carry a pistol all day every day. Around town its an LCP g26 or sig 220 depending on weather and clothing and mood.
In the field it depends on where I am. At my place in wisconsin where there are a ton of bear I tend to carry my smith and wesson 44 mag. In Iowa I usually carry the 220 45. Since the bear are black bear a 357 would be just fine for both purposes as well.
If the main purpose is hunting and some household use I would get a 357 unless you live in grizz territory then 44.
I think smith revolvers are better than ruger. Both are dead reliable but smith has better trigger, that trigger will cost you about an extra hundred buck. If you plan on keeping it along time I think the 100 is worth it, if you sell the smiths tend to hold value better also.

to carry while coyote hunting...I only take a small six shot 22...a finish off gun if I need to dispatch a coyote up close.

Take a look at the Tarus Judge Lite, it can fire a 410 shotsell or a 45 long colt or a combination of both. I like the versatility of it and load it with 2 #6 410 shells followed by 3 45long colt rounds, great defence / snake gun.

Carried a 21/2" S&W 66 for a lot of years but sold it now I carry a 3" S&W M60 357. Slimmer then the 66 and can fit in a pocket. However the 66 had a much nicer DA pull.

+ 1 best there is. Use a Ultra-lite Taurus myself.
