Looking at a 220 Swift Sendero

Came across a great deal on a Remington Sendero in 220 Swift.
Anybody with experience on this combo?

Haven't owned a 220 Swift yet. Sounds like a pretty accurate caliber.

Do not know anything about the Sendero but I have 700VS SF in 220 Swift and it is my favorite rifle.

Have pulled off some good shots and amazed myself every once in awhile.LOL!

You will probably find it not quite so easy to load for as a .22-250 Rem. And, the brass flowing forward into the neck will require neck turning or reaming from time to time.

Don't know about the Sendero, but a friend had a Swift M77 Ruger and the magazine was too short to seat the bullets out far enough to be just short of the lands. He could load one in the chamber and one in the mag and that was it, unless he seated the bullets deeper than what gave him the best accuracy.

My Swift is on the Savage long single shot action, so it's not a big deal (no magazine to worry about LOL).

Yeah that was better than me using BigFatUglyGuy! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I have a Rem. 700 with heavy barrel and laminate stock in 220 Swift and I love it. I do not have the short magazine issue like mentioned in an earlier post. I would recommend you buy it!

I have been shooting and reloading Swifts for 34 years. I have found them no harder to load for than any other bottleneck. I keep my loads about 200 fps from max and get superb case life. Brass is easy to find, and every load that try shoots just tiny little groups with it. I dont like things that dont work well, and for me at least, the Swift works just fine. I dont ever plan on being without at least one.

Rustydust summed it up pretty good. Brass life is OK if your not running right on the edge of really hot loads. I loaded mine with 55 grain bullets at the same velocity as the 22-250 and got good brass life out of it. Around 3850 fps. My Swift has been gone for quite a while now and I'm shooting both a 243 and a 204 Ruger for varmints.

An old friend has one of the pre-64 Winchester model 70's in that caliber and I can't tell you how many coyotes and ground squirrels and rock chucks he's killed with that old rifle. He's still shooting it and we were hunting together in 1962 and 63 with it.

That's all great info guy's. Thanks. I think I'll end up hauling her home with me this weekend /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
She's got a Near base, Leopold Mark IV rings, Rifle Basix trigger and a 6-20 Nikon Monarch sitting on top.

I don't know why people say that its hard to load for /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif Bahh
I have had one for years after going thru all the lesser cals first each one has its niche though
sure mag length limits your a/o but there is no need for any concern the swift will pull you thru /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif
I would buy it and forget all the other bad stuff being said about it that is the way it has been for years and will probably always will be

I see a lot of VS(Varmint Synthetic) Remy's listed as Sendero's.
The Sendero is a long or magnum action and the VS is a short action of the same gun.

Sendero's are very limited in caliber choice (mostly magnums)and there are also a few limited production caliber guns like the 25-06's. The have been regular production available also in 270 Win, 280 Rem as well.

The only current production Sendero are in:
264 Win Mag
7mm Rem Mag
7mm Rem Ultra Mag
300 Win Mag
300 Rem Ultra Mag

Sorry the Sendero thing to me is like the clip/magazine thing to some other people.

I can't say about the 220 Swift, but I do have two Senderos. My 6mm06 is a Sendero (love that rifle), but later found out that my original 25-06 was a limited one, so maybe I made a mistake on a rebarrel job. Regardless, I am very happy with the final product. I also have a 7mm STW in a Sendero. Nice models, but I can't say about the Swift. I have an opinion though - you will like it.

I have a VSSF II (short action Sendero, like the Swift) in 204 and love the gun. The Swift was a close 2nd to the 204. It sounds like you already have the major problem with the rifle (the trigger pull) fixed with the new trigger. NICE FIND!!!

I have the VSSF2 in the 220 swift it is a tack driver but more so with a 50 grain bullet I tried loading th 40grain silvertip and could not find a good load, but once I went to a 50 grain pill at about 3800fps or a little less the swift became very tolerant to different loads. As for the VSSF (or sendero) I have a 204VS (tack driver) and a 300ultra mag in a sendero all hs precision stock Rem700's are usally tack drivers even with factory ammo.

My 220 swift VSSF has won me an IBS match in the factory class. With a good handload,...they will run with the best of them.

I would get the rifle bedded, also.

You may want to try this load:

43.5-44.5g of AA2700 with a Fed 210 with a 50g Nosler Ballistic tip, which is going 4000 fps shooting .300 groups in the 4 Swifts that I had.

Lot# of powder vary so powder charges will range a little.

I would try and seat the bullets as close to the lands as possible.

I Have 2 swifts one of them is a 1-8 twist 40x and The other is a 1-14 twist remington 700 used for a carry gun for coyotes. I have killed several prairy dogs past 700 yards with my fast twist, and The other carry gun does this to the coyotes.
