Looking at Rem. 770 bolt 243 in youth model.

I think for a hard use rifle or a rifle to start with its a good deal. I had got one for 200 bucks in 243 a while back. While no gem, and after some trigger work it did shoot just fine. I wouldn't think of one in 300 or other long actions. But I think the 243 and 308 are ok. They are plenty accurate for 90% of everyday hunters shots. I ran the one I had to 500yds just fine. I did things with that little rifle I wouldn't doo with any of mine i have now, and it still shot straight. Now to me, you can get a used 700 or savage for 350-400 where I am so I wouldn't consider buying another 770. But if it was that or special order and wait for a rifle to just be used in e field? I'd buy one again

Here's the scoop on the Rem 710/770. I bought the first edition, the 710 back in like 2007 I think. It was chambered in 7mm RM.

For the first year or two, and about 1500 rounds, I didn't have any problems with it. In fact, there are few rigs I've shot that were more accurate, as this rifle would shoot just about anything I reloaded for it, and put it in a consistent 1/2 group.

The problems began when I accidentally and unknowingly got my shirt sleeve hooked on the bolt shroud when close the bolt. It broke the shroud clean off. So I thought, no problem, I'll just order a new shroud, wrong! The shroud on the 710/770 is an integral part of the firing pin assembly, which is no longer being made. I ended up jury rigging the things and was able to continue shooting the rifle, but heaven forbid if I ever blow a primer, or gases were to blow back for what ever reason, case head separation, whatever.

It's now a member of my scrap pile.
