Hello, I am wanting some advice on brand of 22-250 to get. I like a bull barrel and 55 grain and heavier bullets. Budget around 500. Thank you on advance.

My first thought as well.

Is the $500 rifle alone or with optics?

This savage medium contour is decently heavy.

Savage Combo

Then there is always used option. A good used Rem 700 Varmint is a good way to go. And it would easily meet your price requirement.

Remington 700 ADL Varmint. There are worse triggers out there and lots of stock options should you choose to replace it. Mine still sits in the cheap plastic stock it came in and is a sub moa gun the way it is. They go for about 450 at Cabelas.

The only criteria it doesn't meet may be your bullet selection. They are 1 in 14 twist barrels and your limited to about 55 gr with them. I have tried the 60s and 65s and as expected the results were not good.

I too thought of the American Predator, if your dead set on a bull barrel though you may not be happy with the predator. The predator models heavy barrel is more like a standard sporter contour from most manufacturers.

Thank you all very much. And would like 500 to be with scope as well. I currently have an ar with bull barrel but want a 22-250 for all the contests I get in.

It's going to be a real uphill battle to find a rifle and scope for $500. Your best bet it to scour the classifieds and how one comes up. I'd suggest saving some more and getting something with better quality. The Ruger is a decently heavy contour, but nowhere near a bull barrel. What type of shooting will you be doing? If it's not long strings, the bull won't really do you too much good, IMO.

The one posted above is a great buy. And, IME, if you call and talk to them...they will negotiate some on price. And when they say real clean, that means it's pretty much mint.

If it were me, I'd look into something similar to what I posted and save, beg, borrow, and/or barter a good piece of glass. Some real decent optics can be had for around $200.

In the long run, you will be more happy with a more quality rifle and optics combo. I've bought stuff in the past to save money...only to end up having to sell it or replace it. So, in the long run, no money was saved.

Look around the house. You will typically be surprised at how much stuff you may have to sell for some play money. And, if you are diligent enough, just tuck away $5 a day or something...that will add up very quickly and you'll be into the quality rig that you really want and deserve.

Thank you pahntr760 . Believe I will save up and get a good one. Greatly appreciate all the advice.

Rem 700 sps

Want to thank everyone for all the advice and info. I went with the savage model 11 predator with Nikon scope. Instead of a 22-250 got it in .243. Got to sight it in tonight and it shoots the factory 58 grain vmax in a 1/2 inch group at 100 yards. Only shot 10 rounds to get it there, which I thought was amazing. Thanks again everyone.
