Looking for a reasonably priced lion hunt

I'm looking for a lion hunt for me and my buddy. Hoping for near 100 percent success in a northwestern state like colorado, idaho, montana, etc. Not looking for a desert hunt. Most hunts I see range from 4-6000 per hunter plus tags and plane ticket.

We are looking two book two winters from now. Any help would be appreciated. Also, it doesn't really matter but if a guide preferred walker hounds, I'd love that.

Give Elkhorn Outfitters a call 970-824-7392 They have a first class deal going there. Lodging, meals and transportation. Tell them Devin sent you and to have them work you a deal. Walkers included.

How you expect a 100% success with walkers.....? Devin you should have set him straight about walkers and 100% success. That like asking for a quarter pounder without grease.

Devin isn't van guiding anymore? Or is it because he doesn't run walkers.

take care fellas, jason

Etter1, i would worry about a quality hunt alot more then success rate. Its not hard to shoot a lion in a tree but its hard to get a trophy lion in a tree.

Look into the type of cats that are being taken in the area that you want to hunt. If they are killing cats that you would consider a trophy then your on the right track. Everyone has different ideas of what a trophy is and all you have to do is please yourself.

When that cat hits the ground your gonna be into it about what your hunt costs when it all said and done so make sure its what you want. If its not the trophy your seeking a picture is pretty cheap to frame.

Good luck in your search, jason

There are lots of guides, some better than others, do your research, and pay heed to the advise that Jason offered.
Best of luck to find a hunt that siuts you.

I guess I'm hung up on what a reasonably priced hunt is. Once you calculate in all the dog expenses, training time, equipment costs, depreciation, wages, etc, I've got an accountant that would argue that anything less than $4,000 to $6,000 you suggested would be UNREASONABLE!

Wow if you are going to calculate all that in you had better charge $10,000 to $20,000 a hunt. But I don't think you will have many hunters.lol You have a good point but you can not base the cost of your hunts on your dogs training, time, equipment and so on.

I have never paid for a lion hunt, but I know some good guides, 4000, to 6000, will put you at the "top of the range", not saying the best guides, just the "top" of what most guys charge.
There are some good guides here, look at some of the post, and you might find a guy here you want to hunt with.

Not really, poor bastards like me "get lucky some times".
Just depends on how bad you want it, how far your willing to travel, and how many dogs, of what caliber you want to feed.
If you have the dogs, draw the tags, and are willin to travel, there are many "public land" choices to lion hunt.
Beleive me , it's not a "rich mans game". Most of the good lion hunters I know, aren't "cuttin a fat hog"(gettin rich). They do it cause they love it, and money be dammed!!!!!

If it helps anyone....besides myself. I will cut your costs in half and sale you a lion already mounted...lol...BUT seriously.

The lion is 7'5''long and weighed 162lbs. It was harvested in Nevada and the measurement came from the DWR not my home scale and tape.

It was mounted by Mitch Cain of Wild West Wildlife Art Studios. He took the cat to Nationals in 2006 and it scored a 91. If anyone is interested the price is $2,500.00 Then you wont have to waste your time hiking through the mountians wondering if you are actually gonna see a cat in the tree. Here is a pic from Mitch's web site. The cat is now on an oak stand.
