Looking for bullet suggestion, .45 deep penetrating for hunting

Howdy all,
I'll looking for some suggestions on a hunting bullet for my .460 rowland. It's the same bullet size as a .45 acp but at higher velocity and energy levels. Being a .45 base puts most of the handgun bullets in the SD realm at lower velocity so it seems they will have the tendency to open explosively on heavy tissue.

I've run quite a few XTP though the pistol and their expansion is definitely violent. Penetration and mass loss looks to be good up through some of the smaller big game. But I have dreams of someday being within pistol range of an elk. Much like I dream of winning the lottery

So what I'm looking for is a bullet that will hold up to high velocity, penetrate deep enough for big game, and have an oal that works for a .45acp/1911.

The pistol is backup to whichever 500 loudnboomer I generally have on my back and the 1911 is quite a bit more comfy for me to carry than my wheelguns.

The 240gr XTPs are not for the Rowland or ACP. The 230gr version is. (Barnes 200gr are not either. The 185gr version is.)

That said, Speer Gold Dots are better hunting bullets than XTPs anyway. I have tested them side by side against XTPs. They hold together better and penetrate deeper. They have been excellent on the deer and bear I have used them on.

However, I would use a cast bullet in the Rowland. A reliably feeding 250gr. hardcast bullet moving out at around 1250fps (or so) would be where I wanted to be at for the big stuff. Some LSWCs may feed in your 1911, or you my have to go with a FN or RN.

Speer would be my second choice......

I am carrying Winchester PDX1 230gr. control expansion ammo in my Springfield XDM 45acp while hunting deer and elk. I wouldn't be afraid to use it on deer and elk within range limits.
