Looking for Dupont IMR 4064

I am looking for surplus Dupont only IMR 4064. Any help would be kindly appreciated. I have gotten a line on some IMR 4064 manufactured in 1994 and 1997. Says on the can formerly supplied by Dupont. Is this the same powder as the Dupont? I know Hogdons bought IMR out in 2003. I can't find out when Dupont sold out to IMR. I purchased some new IMR 4064. All things being equal , my .270 BAR was a one hole gun with Dupont powder and now very erratic with the new stuff.

Kinda funny,

Always been the same for me, whether it be the newer stuff, or the older Dupont in the metal can.

Maybe a bad batch? Last I knew 4064 is the same old 4064 just in a new can. Nothing has been changed.

Interesting...

Physically, there appears to be a difference with the older Dupont powder being a longer cut while the newer IMR4064 is of a shorter length. I tried multiple new bottles of the newer IMR4064 with the same results. My brothers 30-06 also will not group very well with the newer powder versus the Dupont. My dad also has two rifles that shot very tight groups with the older powder (Dupont) but that now will not group very well at all with the Hodgdons IMR. We have exhausted all the normal avenues(varying powder charges, primers, seating depths, new cases). Just looking for the older powder.

Maybe they are extruding it into a longer length. That would change the burn characteristics.

I only got one can of the old stuff left, just loaded some .243 with it. Had the same good luck with the new stuff though.

Sorry about your luck. I'd have no idea where to start.

Thanks for the input Mike 21. If you know anywhere surplus powder can be found for purchase let me know. Have a great Thanksgiving!

I don't know where you're going to find that powder by Dupont although anything is possible. If you can't get the newer powder to shoot as well try something else.

I would try RL15 which is similar.

Did you simply take your load charge from the Dupont and load it up with the IMR? If you haven't done a new load development with the IMR 4064, I would before giving up. I'd be surprised if you can't find a charge that will replicate the original accuracy. I'd be even more surprised if it turned out to be the exact same charge.

You have to chrono your loads and rework with any batch change in
powder. You may want to look at your crown, stock screws and scope mounts
as well. I've shot the powder for a long time and haven't seen any change that
is not normal from lot to lot with powders.

Personally I think something else is wrong and not the powder. As others have told you there should be no difference. I went through this with IMR4350 about 3 years ago.

As I said in an earlier post, we have tried extensively changing variables such as powder charges, seating depths, new vs old resized cases, primers. The guns have all been cleaned and inspected. All checked out fine. Being in healthcare, I have access to telescopic loupes. After examining the older vs newer powder, the older powder is longer cut, thinner in diameter and a different sheen on the powder cylinders itself than the new stuff. 3 out of 4 of the affected guns are BARs. We are all experienced reloaders and excellent marksman.

I have 2 or three pounds in the blue and white rectangular cans. Would sell to you if we can make the deal.... and haz mat charges...... I need help to know if I can sell powder to another individual and have it shipped.....
I am in central Illinois.... if anyone is traveling here.

I am interested if we can make it work. I don't know anything about what is involved in shipping gunpowder across state lines. Are the cans sealed?
