looking for some info on ruger m77/22 .22LR

hey guys/gals looking for some info on these rifles .I came across one of these rifles in blued/walnut stock with a fixed 4 weaver scope on it. The guy is asking $300 for it. and im not shure to the value of this rifle i couldnt find much about it on line due to so many variations. but the bluing is in about 9/10 condition and the stock only has a few dings that i can see. i would rate the rifle at an honest 9/10. the scope is clear as a bell and doesnt have any wear on it. But , if there info on this rifle on here anywere, that i have passed up i appologise in advance. thanks for all your help.

I traded a 10/22T for one of these and was sorry that I did. I know that many people have had them and had great luck with them, but that was not my case. I finally learned that Ruger had some problems with these on the machining line. Check and see if the barrel is pinching up against the side of the barrel channel in the stock. If it is, it is an indication that the hole in the receiver that accepts the barrel is not bored square to the receiver itself. Which means that the bolt face won't be square to the barrel. There is little that can be done to fix this without some major work.

Please don't think I'm just flaming on Rugers, I've had many that shot great, but that wasn't one of them. Just something to take a look at.
 
$300 is pretty cheap for one in good shape. They can be hit or miss on accuracy - and there are fixes for most of the accuracy issues if you wish to invest the time/$$.
 
I've been around three, one wood stock, and two in synthetic, they would all, with good ammo, hold around .50" at fifty yards. $300 with a scope(cheap scope)you won't get hurt if it won't shoot and you have to trade it off.
 
Unless its been totally abused, which I doubt, it should be worth the asking price and then some. Like said, 50/50 on accuracy but they sell new barrels for the 77/22 pretty reasonable. I say "Buy It!".

+1 I've had mine for a lot of years and couldn't be happier with it. Mine likes CCI Velociters and can keep 10 shots at 3/4 inch at 50 yards off a bench and wears a 6X Weaver. It's not a target gun, it's a hunting rifle. It performs great in that role.
 
I have one of the first stainless/synthetic with the old boat paddle style stock. The stock inserts are OD green. It is a shooting son-of-a-gun. Couldn't tell you how many squirrels I've killed with that little rifle.
 
I have owned 3 in he past, didn't learn my lesson with the first two. Couldn't believe the accuracy was that bad! One just sold here locally for $165 and that still wasn't a bargain.
 
Mine shoots great, the key was to test lots of ammo. Luckily the best is Winchester 333(cheap). Also have you handled one? IMHO, the Ruger stocks are sweet, especially the scaled down rimfire ones. Bob.
