it has a cody letter and is correct. it is not an average specimen. it is a custom order made in the 1800's that is in unbelievable condition. i have already contacted the winchester arms collectors association, and am working from that angle as well. but once i get a ball park off of photos, i would like to get an in person value.
it is going to take someone who knows rare winchesters to place a correct value range.
As a collector, I couldn't agree more with your last statement.
I was responding more to the request for pictures, which if not provided as requested, might lead to further issues.
Again, I would look to the Collectors Association for leads on selected and recognized appraisers who might be near you. The link I provided in Houston is a good appraiser, but I realize they are not close to you. However, with all the information you have about the rifle along with photos, they might be able to be "ball park" without too much trouble.
Here is one in Fairbury, NE, not too far from you possibly, depending on where in western Colorado you are located.

This link is another good appraiser of old Winchesters who might be able to help from documents and pictures.

They are in New Orleans, but the good part is they are located on Royale Street just one block off Bourbon Street. You could "Laissez les bons temps rouler", and get an appraisal, too.
