Lubing the neck

Here's the lube by itself (without the spheres).

I've gravitated to using Imperial Sizing Die Wax on case bodies, and powdered graphite on the necks.
I use my index finger and thumb to wipe some sizing die wax on the lower 3/4's of the case body, then dip the neck in a small plastic tub of powdered graphite. It works well for me.
The reason for only putting sizing die wax on the lower part of the case is so the wax doesn't migrate up to the shoulder area causing dimples in the case shoulder.
I tried the spray lube, but stuck a case in the F/L die once... Once was enough.

I have a container of Extra Fine (basically dust) Graphite that I use in my Case Neck Lubricator, Case Lube Station

As was posted earlier, I only dip the first part of the case neck in the graphite...I use a Forster FL sizing die and a RCBS neck sizing die and you can barely feel that the neck expander ball is still in the die..

For what it's worth,, that canister of graphite was purchased at least 40 years ago and I'm the third reloader to use any out of it...It's still 75%+ full...
 
I do what Evil does, some lead shot and powdered graphite. It works really well. A couple of other tricks, I like to use a 50 BMG deburring tool because it keeps my hand from cramping, an electric toothbrush minus the brush works well to settle powder, just run the vibrating flat up and down the side of the case and watch it settle. Another thing, I keep a sheet of fine emery paper on the bench and drag the bottom of the case across it to remove high spots and make legible the head stamp.

I use motor mica for dry lube when neck sizing and Imperial Wax and a Q-tip for brass forming .257 & .270 Weatherby brass from Rem. 7mm Wby brass.

You can bet by without it as long as your expander ball never catches up, if it does it will stretch your case back when it comes up. With a bolt action you may never really care, your bolt will feel a little snug but that's about it. If you are shooting AR's a lot you can get quite a few that won't allow your bolt to go into full battery.

I can't help but think that doing the neck sizing without lubing them will work harden the necks prematurely, and neck splitting MAY be a problem. But, I've never tested this, so I don't know for sure.
 
I have been reloading since 1964 and I agree with Evil on this except I don't use the shot.
I bought this 1 lb. container of Dixon lubricating flake graphite in about 1970 and I still have half can left.
I just dip about 1/16th to 1/8th of the neck into the graphite and good to go. Also I only dip about every 5th case.
Has worked for me all these years and I'm not gonna change it.
I'm sure you can find some on the net but I don't know if the Dixon company is still in business. Don't let the word flake throw you cause it is as fine as baking powder. Matter of fact if you look close on the can it says "No. 635 finely powdered flakes"
Anyway thats all ya need for neck sizing.

I just went back over some of the posts and saw yours....man you must be as old as I am...lol You do the same thing as I do. Do you happen to have the same Dixon can of graphite? That would be funny. Read my post with picture....That is really funny. Like I said in my post I started reloading in 1964 when I got out of the Navy and never stopped, although I don't load as many calibers anymore like I used to.
 
I use tungsten disulphide powder I bought from a Canadian company. Super fine and super slippery. I also put some of the powder on a dry patch and swab the bore eliminating copper and powder fouling. I shot 60 rounds of 243WSSM in my Dtech and had no fouling, maintaining accuracy too.
