Lyman Turbo 1200 Tumbler

Hooked

I had to buy a new tumbler a couple of days ago. My first unit was a Hornady and it lasted about 4 years; hard to guess how many hours it had racked up but I would guess not more than 300. I decided to give the Lyman a try this time; the only complaint about the Lyman unit is that it only comes with the strainer lid. IMO, they ought to just include a regular lid.I turned the unit on with just the strainer lid, some treated corn cob and 9mm brass and immediately the dust started to spew out. Good thing the lid from the old Hornady unit fits on top of the strainer lid nicely. The Lyman was $30.00 cheaper than the Hornady, so time will tell how it holds up. The bowl on the new unit does not feel/apear as durable as the Hornady, but I kept the whole bowl assembly (and the power cord w/on-off switch, something else the Lyman don`t have).

I have Lymann's Turbo 600 that I bought in 1989 and have never had a problem yet and it has to have several thousand hours on it.

I have used the Lyman turbo for 15+, years no mechanical problems. I cut a hole in the center of a cheap paper plate and put under the lid to keep the dust down been using the same paper plate all these years. Also put used dryer sheets in the bowl when tumbling the dryer sheets trap a lot of dust.

I had the same questions when I bought mine. I will agree about the lid. It is useless. It's not big enough to use as a sifter and apparently has dust issues. I say that because its not an issue for me and I'm not sure whether it's because I use walnut or because its in my man cave and I don't run it while I'm In there. I put it on a timer and plug it in when I leave.

I can see how a paper plate under the lid would be sufficient, and also thought about using a timer for auto shut off. think I have a timer normaly used for christmas lights.
That would be nice if this one holds up longer; the motor looks a little more robust, plus I think maybe I have overloaded the old one a time or two.
Just thought I would post in case someone else was replacing a tumbler to keep the lid; now they have a paper plate, timer, and dryer sheet tip.

I have that unit and its been tumbling for 10 yrs at least.
I have a timer on it and my other tumblers.
The lid is lame I agree, but a HD paper plate works good under it.

I also use dryer sheets but I didn't know you could use the used ones. Shhh. She will never know I took the new ones. Lol
