M&P 4.6 10mm Range Report

Picked up my M&P Thursday from the FFL and took it to the range yesterday after I cleaned and lubed it (8 points of lube).

The trigger is a little gritty at 4.75 lbs of pull, but still much better than the old hinged trigger (I replaced them with APEX flat faced triggers). Has full chamber support. It absolutely didn't not like my powder coated 175gr cast boolits (3-5" at 25 yds) and it leaded the barrel so I need to slug the barrel and figure out what the deals is with it. However, it produced under an inch group at 25yards with the Rainer plated HP bullets.

The frame is more narrow than my M&P 40 (original M&P) at the grip and frame. I use a brass catcher on all my pistols that attaches to the picatinny rail and it would not stay attached because it's narrower. Even though I have small hands, I shoot the best with the large grip panel. I like the new grip texture and was comfortable even with full power loads. No malfunctions at all!

I'm a huge M&P fan and shoot them well, but I need to put some time in to see how I like it overall

I didn't know they made a 10mm. I've carried a G20 for years in grizzly country, it probably has more miles on it than some cars! I've had zero issues with it and I will probably get a G40MOS at some point. The grips are big but I have big hands so they fit me well.

Thanks for the range report and hopefully it serves you well!

I had problems with my G20 and after Glock replaced it, I sold it.

My G40 has been solid and recommend it. Love my XDM and 1911's in 10mm.

Not that I noticed even with the 180grainer full power loadings going 1325 fps (AA#9 loadings). I practice with the loads I hunt or carry with so I'm not sensitive to that kind of thing.

Then again, after shooting full power 44mags, it's going to seem mild

PS: The gun comes in 4 & 4.6" barrel models which include suppressor white dot sights, two 15 round SS mags, CORE system, 4 back straps (small, medium, med large & large) and the texture on the grip is much more aggressive which I like.

I'm an M&P fan, I have three 9mm and one .45 M&P. I will be getting a 10mm M&P soon. My Glock 20 is one of my most used handguns. It is such a good general purpose working gun for the outdoors that the G20 has edged other guns to the back of the safe. I have killed deer, hogs, a cranky rattlesnake with that G20 10mm. An M&P might be even mo better, time will tell.

I really like my G40MOS and wish I got one sooner. I have a Leupold Delta Point Pro and love the larger window.

Maybe I missed it... are you shooting a RDS?

Like you, AA#9 is my powder of choice because it's working great thus no need to waste supplies testing other combinations.

I was focused on the M&P and didn't want to take away the focus on it.

Yes. I run a Delta Point Pro with the 2.5 MOA dot on the G40 and mounted a Holosun 508T GR X2 on the M&P 2.0. It has a green reticle which has the 2MOA dot, 32 MOA Circle and 32 MOA circle with the 2moa dot in the center(like the Ecotech) and has 10 DL and 2 NV settings. Also the M&P has 6 PLASTIC and 1 aluminum adaptor plates with mounting screws. However, the mounting screws go through the 508T and plates and screws into the slide itself.

Let me know if ya'll have any questions and I'll answer them to the best of my ability.

Several things to note on my barrel and chamber:

Slugs .399" at the bore and gets very loose in the middle and near the throat. Sent a 403" slug (pure soft lead) through the chamber and (the lands start approximately 1/8" deeper than my other 10mm barrels) slugged at .401" (had to do it several times to get consistent readings) about an 1/2" into the lands and grooves than drove it back out the chamber so now I know where it's gas cutting and why.

I was shooting my FP cast bullets (forgot my .403" RN cast rounds) rounds for my G40 KKM barrel (tight tolerances) which are 401" as it has constant readings of .399" throughout the length of the barrel. In order to get the FP cast boolits to feed reliably, the OAL must be 1.255" or less with a .4210-.4215" crimp at edge of the case mouth to feed 100% during rapid firing.

The M&P chamber will accept (plunk test) a .4235" crimp at the edge of the case mouth and OAL of 1.264" before getting into the lands.

I need to order a kit to cast my chamber and throat to be 100% sure on the exact measurements.

What are you using to crimp with and are you crimping separate from the seating operation? If you don't mind me asking.

I use a Lee taper crimp die.....not the Lee Carbide Factory Crimp Die as it will undersize cast boolits. I always crimp in a separate operation (last step). I cast my own with molds made to my specs by Arsenal.

No more gas cutting (leading) as long as my cast boolits are 402" or 403" diameter in the M&P.

I looked at the S&W but bought a new gen 4 Glock 20 last week. It’s a tac driver. I’d really like to have a manual safety on it to be honest. The barrel slugs at .3995”. I signed up for a group buy 170 hollow point mold over on castboolits. Had a friend give me a box of 500, .401 ACME, hi tec red, cast bullets and a 100, 180 grain Hornady XTPs to try in it during the meantime. Rented a glock 20 last year and it shot as good as my new pistol. I was shooting one big hole with five shot groups at 18 yards right off the bat. It just fits my big hands comfortably. I’ve been wanting one ever since. Cabelas has a sale on them for $579 and I had about $80 in points so I pulled the trigger. Did a “25 cent trigger job”…what YouTube calls it. I polished the trigger group and it now brakes at 58oz. It was over 5.5 pounds before I started. First pull of the trigger at 15 yards I hit the “X” that was the size of my .400” bullet diameter. The next four shots touched the first. I love 10mm! I like the S&W as well. Might have to get one eventually. I tried the 2.0 sheild EZ 380 the same day I rented the Glock. It was a sweet little shooter. I picked up a hornady die set at Cabelas when I bought the pistol. It was the only 10mm die set they had…and zero ammo in stock. I ordered a lee carbide taper crimp die so if I have any budged range brass I was recently given I can size them down.

Anyone looking for a 10mm hollow point or solid cast bullet mold here is the sign up link.
