M1 Garand vs. M16: Which is America's Rifle in light of its original intended (military) use?

nothing against the Garand but numbers are numbers. the ar-15 and its variants just in civilian posession dwarf the number of garrands ever built.

the Garand may have been America's rifle at one point... but no longer. not even close.

Like I said in first post, I was really torn on this one. No doubt that there are way more AR's/M16s out there than M1's; also the average AR probably a bit more accurate out of the box than the standard issued M1, but the M1 can be tuned to turn in excellent accuracy. The AR is better suited for predator hunting IMHO......but ya gotta admit there is something to be said about wood and steel. ;) :cool: Not surprisingly, the M1 beats the AR hands down for longer ranges both in accuracy and energy.

It's really a Ford or Chevy kind of question. :ROFLMAO:
