Has anybody an idea for a homemade magpie call?
Here in Germany electronic calls are not allowed so i´m searcheing for alternatives.

Does this mean Magpies do not sound like Crows ?

What animals/birds are their enemy? maybe that sound is available, such as Owl.

get yourself a Sceery AP-6 you can make some good magpie sounds with it. It is a bite call While hunting with Alberta Predator last Week-end he did some good magpie sounds with his.

I asked the same question a week or so ago. I even emailed Major Boddicker the maker of Critr Calls and caller extrordanaire. While I was waiting a day or so for his reply I got all my calls out and started playing with them. With the Critr Call Peewee I can get pretty close to a good magpie sound. I just can't do it everytime. I need more practice. Well, a day or so later when I received his email reply he basically told me to do what I had just taught myself. The Peewee is an open reed call with a higher pitch than the standard call. It has a very narrow and very flexible reed. I put my mouth all the way up on the reed and do sort of a hoot, hoot, hoot, hoot. You will get the hang of it and with practice will sound fairly good.

heckle and jeckle are the only magpies I know of /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

must be prety cool to have Magpies.

Coachman,
Here in the UK I use a large box of matches, half full. Just shake it half a dozen times, it sounds like the chatter of the Magpie.
