Magpie Hand Call???

I swear I live in the middle of magpie central. When out calling I will use the magpie sounds on my FoxPro now and then, but have often wished I had a hand call instead. There are times I really don't want to lug the e-caller around and a handy magpie call would be nice to have. Any of you expert call makers have the "know-how" to build a magpie call?

Herters made one but if your lucky enough to find it, it'll cost ya a couple hundred bucks.

ACME makes one ya can check out here;

I do my Magpie calls using a Johnny Stewart PC-3 bite call.

OK, silly question...
Sound-wise, how would a magpie call sound different from a crow call?
I know the birds vocals are different.
But could the different vocals be made by the same crow call?

Sure can Will. If ya get a good crow call with the right ring to it, Ya can hit it all day long. I have a couple I picked up over the years, and the JS seemed to work better for me.

I have never been crow hunting and there are none in my area to compare sounds with, so I have no experiennce in that department. I just learned to mimic the pies. Heck, I might sound like a crow too?

I shot a mule deer buck up by Yellow Jacket pass Co in 84. By the time I got to it, dressed it, cut it in half below the rib cage cut the rear half into quarters draged all three pieces through about a foot of snow and accross a creek that was not compleatly frozen over yet, it was allmost dark. So I packed the deer in the snow only to return the next morning and discover that those miserable birds, magpies ruined one of the rear quarters. Well at least they only dicked with one quarter and the local predators didn't bother the rest. Grizz
