Mailing your meat

Wait now, this is serious. I need to find out the cheapest and fastest way to ship about 15 pounds of fresh meat.
I thought about freezing it, wrapping in layers of foil, and overnight express. Yeah, for about $46! There has to be a better way. Any ideas? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Strofoam ice chest, dry ice, and ups fed ex dhl are all going to be close in shipping costs.
With dry ice you could ship it ground instead of air perhaps?

he's right Nasa. I've had hides come in here from Texas in thick Styrofoam chests packed in dry ice.
Three days in transit before I got em but they were still cold and froze in the center.

how far are you shipping? check to see how long it takes by ground. if you add dry ice you will need to have five pounds of dry ice per day than you maybe able to use ground. check with the people you get your ice from and they should be able to let you know how much you need. add the price of the ice and extra weight from the ice and you might just want to use the air route. good luck

Thanks guys, keep it coming. I've got the calculator out..... Louisiana to Colorado, maybe 2 days ground (WAG). Now to talk to some shippers.

Hey Nasa,

You are looking at 3-4 days transit between Co and La. I am the manager of the Shipping Dept and I go through this all the time. If you want to save a little coin, and still get delivery in 3 days, Ship UPS Orange. Guaranteed 3-day delivery, and not much more money than standard ground service. That is what I would suggest, as air freight is going to cost a lot more cash.

Also if you ship in one of those cheap styro ice chests you can buy for like 2 bucks I would wrap it up good with duct tape or something to keep it from tearing up.Or maybe just buy a cheap plastic container from Wal Mart and put the ice chest in it to protect it in transit.
And also Brent is correct.Im looking here on my UPS software at work and your gonna have to expect 3-4 days ground, so I would ship it 3 day select probably.

Yeah, but not for long. Hope to have a few kilos in the smoker for Thanksgiving. Wait 'till you try it. You're gonna' love it.
