Making 6.5x284 Brass?

I have been reloading for quite some time, but have never loaded for less common calibers like the 6.5x284, and have never needed to make my own brass before either.

So my question is this: I have never necked down brass before, but this brass is very hard to come by in my area and I would like to make my own if at all possible. Would I just take the 284 Win brass and run it through a neck sizer and full length size the brass (and trim it if need be) Or is there more to it than that?

Thank you for your input!

I have no experience with this, but that is what I would do. I would then take a piece of brass not loaded or primed and try to chamber it into the rifle and get a feel for how the bolt closes. I hope this helps.

The Win Brass is marginal. I ran some though a 284-6.5 resizer then loaded up for fire forming. Only a third made it, the rest reverted back to .284. Loads were the same for Sierra and Hornady bullets. The Hornadys would not load.
At this point the Lapua cases I had back ordered arrived so I have not resolved the problem. Best to go with Lapua, norma or nosler cases in that order for the 6.5-284.

Thanks Chris! I was down there two or three weeks ago and didnt see any. Sportsmans has never (to my knowledge) carried 6.5x284 brass. So I have been reverting to online orders.

Thanks for the input everyone. I usually like to have a stockpile of brass and thought it would be nice to make my own if it were possible.
