I called one in 2 nights ago to about 75 yards. He was standing looking straight at me when I took the shot. I'm a bit new with juggling a thermal monocular with my NV scope, but couldn't see for a second or so after the shot so wasn't sure if he was down or not. Got the thermal back up and didn't see anything laying there. When I walked up to where I thought he had been standing I looked for blood with the flashlight. I got a bit confident when I saw some chunks of meat, hair and thick globs of blood. About 10 feet to the side was another handful of meat/hair and stringy stuff, then a little farther I found more hair and a little heart and some little intestine..so looking closer I noticed the hair was rabbit hair and chunks were little rabbit meat with bones etc.... So, I'm guessing the shot merely scared him enough to up-chuck his latest meal and take off. This was adjoining an apple orchard so I looked up and down the rows for a half hour with my thermal and flashlight not finding anything. There was enough snow on the ground and I found no blood other than those three spots with globs of meat/bone/hair. Anyone have this happen before? Think it was simply an escape mechanism or could it mean a hit and I just couldn't find any evidence after looking?
