Making a Two Piece JC reed call or Why I like a long bed lathe. Warning!

Man I hate to hear that, hopefully it isn't serious and you will be back to normal soon. On a similar note I cut the tip off of my thumb a few weeks ago while using the table saw. It wasn't serious and healed up quickly having just taken off the fleshy tip of the thumb but the mental block has lasted alot longer. I still dread ripping small stock on the table saw.

Take care of yourself...

Thank God you are all right Eric... thank you for posting this. A lot of guys swallow their pride and don't say a word, but those who step up and post things like Eric and Steve are posting about the dangers are a great asset to us call makers just starting out. Thank you guys for that... it is a very selfless act that shows who you are as a person. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Yep, those damned saws scare the crap out of me. I have had my share of kickbacks and thrown pieces, to show me I was doing something wrong. I try to be super careful and think every step out now. Like I said, they just scare me to pieces. Eric, buddy, I hope you will recover. Keep us posted.

Agreed! I have had simalar problems. I had a piece of blackwood come uncorked in the saw. The piece flew past my head and over the fence in my back yard. I knew it went to the yard next door. I bet they wondered how it got there. I like to use a bandsaw for all my cutting. I fell like I have more control. You just gotta mind the fingers at ALL TIMES!
Eric heal up and I am glad you were wearing face protection. Could have lost that artistic eye you have, that would be a shame to us all.
