Marking your gun

I had an idea while scrolling, but I'm sure others have thought of this before but here goes. I know many people put notches, tallies, etc in their gun stock to keep check of the kills. Has anyone used other methods besides notches or tallies, such as small animal track stickers to not only tally kills but species as well? Seems like a good idea in my head anyways. Dont shun me if it seems stupid to ya'll

Me either, that's why i thought small stickers would be a neat alternative. Kinda like stickers on football helmets for accomplishments
 
Dad used sewing needle pin heads. The flat chrome ones to tall feer taken with each gun. He would cut it off to about a half inch and tap it in.
 
A guy from Minnesota that used to frequent here has his gun stock taped with white athletic tape and he used a pen to mark every kill... I'll see if I can go way back and find a pic..
Found his name.. Phil Schmidt. .. good guy. Good shot too... can't find any pics

I have done it for years on an New England Arms single shot slug gun when I take a deer with it. But like others said I would not damage an expensive gun. You could mark the recoil pad to keep track over the years and just change it out if you ever want to sell it cheaply. Or better yet keep a hard bound journal and keep locations, weather conditions, hunting partners name ect. Plus one day your kid or grand kids will love reading it.
 
Years ago I would use a stencil of a coyote and put it on the front left fender of my truck. Got full don't do it any more.

I don't mark my rifles, I have too many of them and swap around all the time.

I do have a logbook though that I keep track in. Also on the wall in my office I have a county plat map on a foam board, and I stick pins in the locations of kills.
 
never done it but if i did i could not getr them on the gun because i have killed a lot of coyotes and the early ones would have wore off anyway.and i like the gun free of a lot of extra stuff
