Marlin .22 mag base question

On the 983, the receiver has the regular 3/8"groove, but it is also drilled and tapped. Would there be an advantage of using one method over another for mounting a scope? I looked on SWFA and Midway and I don't see a base listed for this gun.

Thank you, that's what I was thinking. Any idea how the holes are spaced? I didn't see any thing listed specifically for the 983T. Most of the Marlin mounts seem to be for the lever actions. I'd prefer a one-piece base if one's available.

They used to come with bases, now don't? I think they take the weaver #16, same as Savage rimfires...but don't quote me on that. A call to Marlin might be in order? They might stock them. I ordered an action screw for my 25M and it was cheaper through Marlin than Midway/Brownells/Numerich.

I have the older model marlin and it just has the 3/8" dovetail. I had all sorts of problems getting it sighted in and keeping it there. It is a very imortant gun as here in michigan we can only use rimfires at night. My model is the bull barrel so I knew it would be accurate. I also have a leupold VX-III 3-9x50 so I knew the scope was ok.
Just had to figure it out. After alot of time and money I came across the BKL mounts. Problem solved! They are a little expencive but well worth it.Here is there site www.bkltech.com and the mount you want I belive is the BKL-261 4" Long Rimfire Unitized Dovetail Mount. It is one full peice as the name suggest and rock solid. It uses the whole dovetail machined into the receiver not just a portion of it.You will love it.Check it out.I also have a leupold VX-III 3-9x50 so I knew the scope was ok.

They also make this model for all sorts of rifles. It looks like some would fit 10/22's. And the clamping bolts I beleive are 1/4" maybe 3/16" either way there not the wimpy little screws that are on most mounts.Be assured that if these fail there is going to be alot of damage to your scope and gun along with it. These are almost bullet proof.I love when products are actually good.So much junk out there.
