I just bought a new marlin 17HMR. The mag is loose in the rifle and I was wondering if their is an easy fix for this? Any other info on this rifle would be great! Thanks guys!!!
 
I have the same problem. I also have feed problems from mag backing out, bolt sometimes passes over shell without feeding because mag won't stay all the way up in chamber. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
 
It's easy to fix, just push the bottom of the mag towards or away from the muzzle when it's installed to change the angle of feed. To tighten the mag, just squeeze the "track" on the mag in a vise or with a vise grip just enough so that it fits the mag guide without being loose. Lube with a dry lube like One Shot or Elmer's Slide-All. You may need to bend the guide slightly with the action out of the stock.

If you want a shorter mag, the Savage 93 5-shot mag will fit with slight modification. The mags are available at Walmart, Cabelas or Basspro and direct from Savage.
