Marlin MR7 rifle

Visited a LGS yesterday to buy some reloading supplies. Noticed a Marlin MR7 rifle 30-06 in their used rifle case for $299. While I was aware of the MR7 that was made for a few years back in the early 90s, had never seen one. So happened, sales clerk came to case to put a rifle in it, so was able to handle the Marlin. Sales clerk wasn't aware of the MR7 in the case....was something just taken in and for that matter, while being on the elderly side like me, clerk ignorant of the Marlin MR7 rifles. We checked it out, both agreed it was a nice looking rifle, very nice condition and etc.

Anyway, was very tempted to buy the rifle, but LOL, I do not need another 30-06 and within last 2 or so months have had several rifles rebarreled I'm still playing with.

I'm just curious for any first hand comments about the Marlin MR7 rifles. Did I miss making a good buy?

Good rifle, and a not do bad price. I owned a .270 that was a fine gun. I wouldn't expect a .30-06 to have a shot-out chamber or throat, but I'd definitely find a way to check the barrel for rust, etc. You can usually spot a badly cared for firearm by the stock and exterior condition of the metal parts, but that's no sure thing.

Great rifle. Decent price. I'd definitely offer them $250 or $275 though. You can purchase a Ruger American for less than $400 and have a new gun.
